The MOM of them all really as it even surpasses a great one like the Warlords series. Master of Magic will always be the best ever in my book as I've n ever played any computer game as much. It has the perfect mix of strategy and tactics and diplomacy and magical brewing I've ever seen. Nothing has come close since and I've played them all from Warlords to HOMM to Age of Wonders (ai is horrible in this one) and the others. I always end up coming back to MOM. A graphics facelift is all it really needs but if you have DosBox you can easily play this on any machine and spend hours and hours of good time enjoyment playing it.

What separates MOM from the rest is the unbalanced races it has in it as it was never setup to be a multiplayer game. So, you can play anything from a very powerful race like the dark elves all the way down to the stupid gnolls and still have fun and challenging games out of it.

This is one of those games where they created the ai to go after the human player eventually and you'll have to deal with 4-5 other ai players eventually to survive. Games today do not have this quality and that is why they are so boring and stupid and the ai is so dumb looking.

So if you don't have it or have never played it then you need to find it and play it. Once you have experienced MOM you won't want to play those others anymore.
