Mass Effect Andromeda Two Steps Forward 3 Steps Back

User Rating: 8 | Mass Effect: Andromeda PS4

The new entry into this mass effect series has you exploring a new galaxy and you are the pathfinder which means its your job to find new planets for humanity to live on but of course things don't go to planned and you find an ancient civilisation and a new enemy called the ket. That's as basic as you can make the plot out to be and I guess the question is how does it hold up to to previous games in the series. In some cases its better then in others its a lot worse but if your a fan of the series you'll be comparing the games a lot!

So when you start playing the game you get to pick if you want to play as Scot or Sarah Ryder and ill tell you right now go with the default Scot Ryder anything else you pick or create will most likely just look plain horrible especially Sarah Ryder! The only thing you can complain about in the graphics department for this game is the character models during conversations sometimes they don't look that great and I believe cause I played the game about a month after launch they have fixed a fair bit of the game through updates but its still filled with glitches and bugs but I think its a lot better then it was!

Ill get all the bad things out of the way first. Like I said the character models during conversations weren't the best at times and then that isn't helped by some of the awkward conversations the characters can have at times! I wouldn't say the conversations are bad but there were a fair few times the game made you thing wtf was that! Its also annoying when it give you dialogue options and you pick one and you character seems to say something completely different to the option you just picked. I also came across a fair few glitches like enemies vanishing into walls, enemies not fighting back, the sound for my game disappearing until a quit and got back into the game and a whole bunch of other things like that! The game also has you hacking into things which forces you into doing Sudoku puzzles which weren't too hard but it broke up the gameplay and was more annoying then anything! Also the game has a lot of boring repetitive fetch side quests which are called tasks which I was not interested in at all. Also the menus for this game can be pretty confusing to begin with its not very well organised and titll take you a while to figure out how to research new weapons and how to equip all your abilities and weapon mods.

So there's a lot of bad in this game but I there's also a lot of really good things this game has to offer and does better then the previous games! Combat and exploration of planets have been massively improved! I found the combat to be really fun in Mass effect Andromeda! The guns pack a punch and feel solid and good to use. Then you can jump around the battlefield with you jump pack making each fight very speedy with you moving and jumping out of cover to higher up places! The game also lets you use biotics and tech powers a lot easier in this game making it heaps of fun throwing your enemies around and setting them on fire! Also the exploration is really good in this game you have about 6 planets to explore which on these planets you need to make then livable for humanity! Each planet looks great and is a decent size for exploring! You get a vehicle to explore these planets called the nomad similar to the mako in the first mass effect but heaps funner to drive around! The planets look great and while it seams like they are pretty empty there's actually a lot to see and explore! While I said there were a lot of boring side missions there's also a fair few good ones to complete the main ones being loyalty missions for your squad members. Which brings me to the next thing about this game your squad members. People will be comparing them to the original squad members of the previous mass effect games iv heard alot of people saying they don't like them but to be honest I thought they were just as good as the previous games and I enjoyed listening to the banter while I was exploring planets!

The story was interesting enough exploring planets trying to find out about the previous civilisation that had been around before humans and what the main enemies of this new game are up to. I guess the only thing you could complain about is if you compared this story to the previous games it might not be as exciting with the previous mass effect games having a lot more on the line! I finished the game on normal at 36 hours with having complete 71 percent of the game there was still a few interesting things to do but mostly the boring stuff left so if was to complete everything I could probably spend another 10 hours on the game but year not sure if I want to do that!

So over all id say its a great game that does do a lot better then the previous mass effect games in certain areas but then it also falls short in other areas and the glitches and bugs in the end don't help the games appearance at all! Defiantly worth a shot this game to me gets an 8.5
