Good, and then the ending comes...

I've played the entire series straight through (started playing Mass Effect 1 a few weeks ago) and it's been quite a ride, a really well-told story throughout, so many great moments that I will remember for a long time. Shepherd deserved better than what Bioware offered for the three endings (spoiler: I got up to 3000 war assets and wasn't given the opportunity to save Shepherd, although I chose the "synthesis" option which wouldn't have given me the chance to save him even if I'd done the MP portion). I wanted him to be able to actually live the rest of his life knowing all he had done, yet spend the rest of his time in the galaxy simply, perhaps having children with Liara in a pretty area of Earth or some other garden planet. I wasn't given this choice though: the player is forced to have our character "martyred" for the sake of the galaxy. It left a bitter taste in my mouth because it's the same nonsense of media like the Matrix and Deus Ex (the later of which is a fantastic game with a lame ending, much like this series). They had 4+ years to devise a spectrum of endings that would please all the fans, and they instead gave the optimistic among us a big middle finger. Thanks for nothing, guys: this is the last Bioware game I'll be spending money on.
