A mixed bag

User Rating: 6 | Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy - Episode 1: Tangled Up in Blue XONE

When adopting an incredibly popular superhero team, You gotta come hard. You can't leave anything half-baked, You gotta deliver a finished product that excites people and keeps them entertained. I feel like they did a so-so job with the first episode. It doesn't hit home as well as the films do and it proves that just because it's popular, Doesn't mean it's a good idea to adapt it into a series.

The cast did a great job of bringing the characters to life, I will admit that. I was a bit on the fence at first but as the episode progressed, I grew to like them quite a bit. A key thing for me though is lack of witty banter that the guardians are known for. That is something that has to be fixed in later episodes.

The plot has me on the fence as well. It's not bad but it could certainly have been better. There's the epic fight in the beginning and that's that. It's a slow burn until the end of the episode that ends on a fine cliffhanger. It would have been nice to see a bit more flash in that middle section, A little more entertainment instead of the drawn out, boring dialogue that happens.

The gameplay isn't much different from other Telltale games, Aside from the use of a communicator and rocket boots. The moral choices have little to no effect on how things play out so it seems like a waste of time having to choose when there's no change in the outcome. And it's not that long of an episode and only takes a little over an hour to beat.

Overall: 6/10
It's a mixed reaction from me. The parts are better than the sum and it proves that not every adaption is gonna be one that Telltale knocks out of the park.
