The playable character roster and the lack of a tagteam mode are the biggest let downs that hit you right off the bat.

Many people have experienced the thrill of this vibrantly colorful and crazy 2D fighting series but of those people many have skipped the first. While not the first Capcom marvel crossover, this is the first to feature playable characters from all over the spectrum of the Marvel and Capcom universe. With that said you get some pretty out of place characters (i.e. Megaman) for a fighting game. I was particularly disappointed in the character roster due mostly to the fact that I played MvC 2 before this one so basically I jumped from 50 plus characters to 15 plus 7 hidden. What's worse is the fact that five of the seven hidden characters in this game are basically a character that was already playable with different colors and slightly different moves. This brings me to my main complaint about Marvel vs Capcom 1 for the Playstation: There is no tag mode.

Now that I have got the bad news out of the way I'd like to talk about some of the good things. As always there are the super cool hyper-combos and they have made it easy for beginners with and easy button mode so that you don't need the reflexes of a teenager to pull of the super-moves. Every character has two or three of them and they can be combined with a partner character to even more devastating effect. Capcom did stick to their usual tradition of tacking on a brief ending to the battle modes for each character and you'll be happy to know that all the characters stay true to their original style and source material.

I'll also note that I experience some sound glitches with the music. That could just be a technical problem with the disc or my old dusty PS.
