Review: Marvel vs. Capcom 2

What happens when you get all of Marvel Comics Greatest Superheroes, and all of the superstars from all of Capcom's Video Games into one big free for.? Well we are all we are about to find out.

Story:
All of the characters are trapped in the X-men's Danger room and the only way to get out is to find and defeat the Big Boss, so they Break into Teams of 3 to search for and Find it and defeat it to gain their freedom

Graphics:
The character graphics are snatched from the games that each character originally came from like Marvel Super Heroes, Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3, Darkstalkers, X-men, and some have been transformed from their 3d counterparts to 2d sprites and represent them well, and the look is well done considering that all of Capcom's Sprite based 2d fighters could really use a graphical update, still it fits in since this game was at the tail end of the time where this type of graphics were acceptable.

Music:
The Music is ok but what save this game from tanking in the sound department are the excellent voices and sound effects that throw you in the action like nothing else will, and on their own add another dimension to the game.

Control:
If you like and play any of the Capcom Based 2d fighting games than you will be right at home control wise, with a few exceptions, that help boost the game play to a fast fever pitch pace. You have a 3 member team of fighters selected from the roster of unlocked fighters. The ability to tag you partner in at a whim to either bail you out or help you with an added attack help to add to the fast pacing, and satisfying appeal to the game.

Design:
With what was a first at the time, the more you play the more stuff you can afford to unlock. You start with 20 characters, and can purchase more than 20 more characters, more stages you can shake a stick at, and new skins and colors for each character. You will find yourself playing the game a multitude of times just trying to unlock everything, and to see how high you can rack the combo meter to using different combos of characters. My current highest combo was 150 hits using War Machine, Iron Man, and Cable which almost guarantees an instant kill of a character if they don't block.

If you have a Dreamcast or a PS2 and love 2d fighting games you owe it to your self to get this game, others may want to rent this game, but I think that you will like the experience enough to end up enjoying this game as much as I do.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2:

Pros:
A lot of Characters
A lot of stages
A lot of things to unlock
Easy but fast game play
Great sound effects and voices
Fun game play
Combo system keeps challenging you
Long replay

Cons:
Music is a little sub-par
2D Sprites could use some retooling
