Decent game with some pretty great fan service.

Marvel's superheroes always deserved a great game, and though this isn't exactly one of them, it's still decent enough to be played.

The mechanics are pretty simple, the face buttons let you attack or defend or jump, while pressing the R1 button while enhance them. Yeah, that's pretty much it with the gameplay, so you can actually pick this up and play easily.

But what makes it fall from greatness is its repetitive single-player campaign. Yes, you can choose which character's story you'd want to play (although initially, you only start out with one), but the stages aren't exactly impressive, but the same enemies keep coming up after you over and over again to the point that it also becomes tedious.

Several glitches also occur in this mode, such as the fact that you can shoot the enemies that are placed on the other side of the blocking blue wall, while they just run after you. And sometimes, the camera really sucks because sometimes there will be enemies that'll attack from behind without you knowing it, and then suddenly the game's camera zooms in at you while you fall on your ass. That's pretty annoying most of the time, and doesn't really come out as cool or anything.

The multiplayer is really fun, but it's still shallow.

The payoff of doing all of this though, are the rich number of great unlockables, such as comics, backstory and some surprises made exclusively by the Marvel team. And yes, they're exclusive to this game.

Speaking of comics, the style of which the game is presented is really cool, and the drawings of the characters apply likewise, although when you play them and they're 3D, they look really, really bad (looks at Elektra... -shudder-).

Bottom line: The game is pretty decent, and it really, really had a lot of potential and could've drawn a lot of novice gamers because of the controls and their accessibility. But the single-player campaign simply doesn't cut it, although Marvel comics fans will find a lot to like with its unlockables.
