A game that was just so crazy, you've got to play it to believe it!

User Rating: 8.7 | Mappy-Land NES
Mappy Land was a game made by Namco for the NES back in 1988. The entire point of the game was to go through the lvls avoiding the Cat and his minions and get to your mouse girlfriend. Sounds like something you've heard before? That is where you're dead wrong.

The fun characters of the game were you, the cat (and his minions), and your kidnapped girlfriend. To rescue her, you (named Mappy) had to avoid the cat (named Meowkies) through 8 different areas to reach your girlfriend (named Mapico) or your prize. The prize however changed after each of the getting through the 8 lvls as the "story" progressed. You had to get cheese for Mapico first, then get wedding rings for her, and then a christmas tree, then a ball for Mappy Jr., etc. (You get the idea!)

Along with traps, springs, and other quirky innovations, Mappy Land stays out of the pitfalls that have gotten so many games of the same genre. Mappy Land follows no game in terms of design and was quite great when it came out on the NES.

The graphics for the game are quite great. While they may not be the hi-def graphics of all the modern "Next Gen Systems", it is remarkable looking at the graphics and then looking at different games for the NES. The backgrounds or each area are fun to look at and don't leave you wondering why you picked this game up if the graphics are so terrible.

Mappy Land was also such a great game because of its great music and also the difficulty of the game. The music while after a while might get repetitive, with the limited capabilities of the NES musically wise, the game sounded great. Another great thing about the game was the amount of time it spent learning the game. While you might not get it at first, after about 5 minutes at most, you know what you're doing and jumping over the cat, avoiding the cat, and throwing traps at the cat. This just helped the game so much.

All in all, while it wasn't the best game for the NES, it was certainly one of the most fun on it!
