hardhardhardcore baseball fans, you'll be ok. but the Wii version is depressingly crippled in the end.

first off, i'll say its probably as good as the developers could have pushed it graphically considering how much extra information is required when storing data and stats for so many teams, especially in the game of baseball. its not that it looks BAD... it just looks like a PS2 job (surprise, surprise). it is nice that instead of the crowds looking like giant flat pieces of cardboard (Madden, i'm looking right at you), there's actually some dimension and movement in the stands.

and the use of motion is... nice. just nice.

but why oh WHY couldn't 2k Sports implement the same batting setup used in Wii Sports?? its completely more intuitive and much more... better feeling than simply flicking my wrist for a full swing. granted, one could do this for Wii Baseball too, but at least there, it would track the actual movement of your Wii Remote as it travels through space. there's no sense in having me use the Control Stick to place my hits when i could just as easily (if not more easily) place hits based on how and where my bat placement is. what, did 2K Sports really think that a meaningless "bat waggle" triggered by waggling the Wii-mote would suffice?

the commentary is actually really good. very natural, and enterataining. i've heard a few repeats, but its nothing like (again) Madden. BOOM!

but here is my biggest point of pissed-offness. rumors circulated for awhile that Minor League teams wouldn't be included for the Wii version. there were other things thought to be missing, such as the Trading Cards stuff, but the biggest thing to me was the Minor Leagues. i have a hometown team (the Montgomery Biscuits) that i love dearly and was really looking forward to playing with.

guess what: THERE AREN'T ANY MINOR LEAGUE TEAMS. AT ALL. it really ticks me off that 2K Sports didn't have the cahones to be up front from the start and state that Minor League teams wouldn't be part of the Wii platform. there's even an emblem on the back stating its use of Minor League entities, but i have yet to discover where they are in the game.

plus, not having the ability to download roster updates is just completely nonsensical. just because i own a Wii doesn't mean i don't care about my sports games, but this mindset just seems to be stereotype that won't die. Madden 08 was a sad enough affair, now i'm really freaking wary of NCAA Football later this year: it'll probably be the same freakingMadden Wii engine skinned with NCAA teams on top. its an absolute sham.

its all just very maddening (har har). the PS3 and Xbox 360 sports game looks absolutely brilliant and have all the abilities that the masses want. i cannot/will not, however, purchase another console just for the sake of having one or two games.

anyways. thats it. this is just a big dissapointment and will likely result in a return/exhange while i bide my time for the only developer who seems to give a rat's ass to release SSBB next week.
