Magical Starsign is a typical, by-the-book RPG with nothing that makes it stand out. But that doesn't mean it's bad.

"What a stupid title."

That was honestly all that I thought about the game when I first heard about it. But at the time, I was looking for some fun RPGs to play, and I figured, hey, it's worth a shot.

Well, I was looking for an RPG, and I got one, so I can't complain, can I? Because Magical Starsign is just that- an honest-to-goodness RPG, and nothing more.

You are a highly visually-deformed student of magic learning spells and the like at an academy. The game lets you choose your gender and element, (think Pokemon) but your only choices are boy/girl and light/dark. And the choice has almost no effect on the story.

Well, I guess that's not really true. See, Magical Starsign uses an interesting battle "engine" that's turn-based and "element"-based. When certain planets are in certain places in the sky, certain characters will get a power boost. For certain. However, that applies only to your party members. As for yourself, because you are the main character and that makes you special, you power up depending on the time of the day in the game. Light powers up during the day, dark powers up at night.

And yet, despite these "complexities," it doesn't really effect the battle. (Think The World Ends With You here) In the end, you can just blast your way through anything without the help of planetary alignment and the like. Brute force for the win!

Anyway, as a deformed-reverse-steroid-Barbie character, you wander a bunch of different planets in search of your lovely magic teacher. Oh, and there's a bunch of pirate otters and magic clay pots to meet on the way. Fun.

Yeah, the characters are wacky, and the monsters you fight even more so, (a giant tree-child Medusa thing?) but the most wacky thing I recall from the game was this:

My character, the girl character of course, went up and talked to one of her (my) party members, a robot I affectionately named Wall-e. He said something along these lines- "... I've always felt the desire to protect you throughout our journey... I wasn't sure at first, but now it's so clear... I realize I'm in love with you! Blah blabbity blah blah blah." I was like, (゚Д゚|||)

Because he was a robot. (Apparently if you play as a male character, your rabbit-girl party member confesses to you. Something to look forward to, guys?)

Anyway, if you like RPGs, you get Magical Starsign despite it being a little boring and a little repetitive. If you don't like RPGs, you avoid getting this game because you won't like it. Bye now.
