First RPG for Gamecube which may only suit the fans

User Rating: 7.5 | Lost Kingdoms GC
Lost Kingdoms is a RPG where a young princess Katia fights evil monsters in order to save the world from mysterious black fog. Some stages include minor puzzles, but usually the objective is just to get from start to finish usually facing an enemy boss monter at the end.

Battles are encountered in stages randomly like in Final Fantasy series. Katia uses cards in battle which summon monsters to aid in battle. Some monsters are independent and after summoned they will fight the enemy on their own after they die, some are used as a weapon. Weapon-type monsters briefly appear on screen striking once on direction which player is facing before disappearing. These cards can be used however multiple times. Finally there's summon cards, which summon big monsters like dragons to perform a single powerful attack. Summon cards may be most powerful, but they are single use-cards which require lot of runestones.

Runestones are dropped by defeated monsters throughout the battle. Using cards consume runestones but if player doesn't have enough runestones while using a card player is punished by losing health depending how many runestones he lacks. Battles are on real-time so player has to remember avoid enemy attacks while using cards. Cards are divided in five elements: fire, water, wood, earth and neutral. Fire cards are strong against wood, wood is strong against earth, earth against water and water against fire. It's important to know which cards to use against enemies because if you don't take advantage of their weaknesses you'll end up waisting cards and runestones which causes you to also lose some health.

New cards are rewarded based on performance in stage. They can also be bought from store or you can capture some enemy monsters who's low on health. Game also has some secret levels which has some powerful cards as rewards. Graphics and sound are decent when you consider that it's the first RPG on Gamecube. Overall the game is pretty complicated and therefore if you're not really a fan of RPGs you may not enjoy this game, but once you get a hang of it it's actually a pretty good RPG.
