Lit is one of the best puzzle games, heck even one of the best WiiWare games you can find.

Lit is a puzzle game for the WiiWare, and I have to say, it is one of the best WiiWare games out there. Let's see why.

You play as a goth kid named Jake who has to rescue his girlfriend from his highschool, which has been infested by light hating monsters. As long as he stays in the light he will be safe. But if he just takes a small step in the dark, you lose and have to start the level again. I wish there was an introduction that tells you what you need to do. If you wanna figure out what's going on, you'll have to read the manual. I can't remember the last time I read a manual!

When you first start out the game, they don't give you any idea what to do. Basically, they just put you in a room and say "Survive!" You will soon figure out that you will need to stay in the light. The lamp's light will help you navigate around the rooms.

You also get a flashlight and a slingshot. The flashlight will not help you navigate around the room. It's mostly for planning your route. You will need to recharge your flashlight from time to time by shaking the Wiimote.

The goal of each level is to get to the exit. You will need to use the aforementioned slingshot to destroy windows, which will create light pathes. You will also have to use cherry bombs and flares. When you use your slingshot, the game turns into a third person perspective. You point the Wiimote at the screen to smash windows.

Sometimes the window-lit path that you make is blocked off by a piece of furniture, and you need to find a way around it. Why he doesn't push the piece of furniture out of the way is beyond me.

There are also some lights that make no sense. There are classrooms that have rotating lights. Why would a classroom have rotating lights? It seems incredibly inconveinient.

You will have to light up the room just to get you across the room. Why can't you just turn on all the lights? Because if there are too many things on, the circuit will break and everything will turn off. Apparently when the electrician was wiring this place, he probably thought no one would wanna have more than 5 lights on at a time. And, all of these classrooms have computers, lights, and TVs everywhere! I guess the classrooms have to take turns using certain things. There is a bar on the top of the screen which will tell you how much things are on.

The controls were almost perfect. You toggle your items with the B button and use them with the A button. When aiming with the slingshot, you press Z. I say the controls are almost perfect because the A button is also used for turning on and off lamps. This was problematic since I accidentally turned off a lamp that I was standing next to, because I wanted to turn on my flashlight.

Every other room has a phone with your girlfriend talking in it. You have to answer it before it stops ringing, and trust me, you don't wanna miss one phone call, or you won't get a good ending. The phone calls went thru the Wiimote's speaker, and the voice actor did a pretty good job. She will call scared and will tell you what is happening.

Every 5 rooms, there is a boss character which you must fight. You need to light up the room enough to kill them, or shine your flashlight to kill them. There is no goal in these levels, you just kill the boss. This was a fun change of pace to the regular game. The bosses were a puzzle in itself.

THE VERDICT!

Lit is currently 800 Wii Points. It's nice to see a developer make a game so great, plus pricing it reasonably, unlike other games for the Wiiware(cough cough World of Goo) It is also nice to see a developer to make a great game, despite the Wii's memory limits. You should definently buy it now!

Final Score-
9- Superb!
