A Worthy Prequel

I'm a little late to the party, as I'd actually forgotten that this game was coming out this year, but I just got it for PC and I'm really proud of it--especially considering DONTNOD isn't involved; Deck Nine really kept the spirit of the original alive and built on it.

Continuing the fact that I was supremely out of the loop, I had no idea that Ashly Burch wasn't doing Chloe's voice again, although when Chloe first started talking I could tell something wasn't quite the same, although it was extremely similar--nearly to the point I forgot it wasn't Ashly. The new voice actress Rihanna Devries totally nailed all of the mannerisms and vocal ticks Ashly created for Chloe.

It was fascinating to see how they could make this the same game without any of the abilities that technically made "life strange" in the original game, but they managed to keep it equally as entertaining and emotionally as engaging as the initial release. The game itself probably isn't long, but I always take the scenic routes and talk to as many of the characters and observe as much of the backgrounds as I can while I play, so the game had me on it for a little over 3 hours.

Soundtrack was more of the emotional, uplifting/downtempo/vibey rock that I'd come to love so much from the original game, with "Through the Cellar Door by Lanterns On the Lake" (the train scene with Chloe & Rachel) being my personal favorite.

While it was unfortunate I didn't catch episode one on release, the good news is I now have both episodes to play back-to-back... So there will be more to talk soon enough.

Kudos, Deck Nine.
