A game of cinematic proportions
The story alone is better than most movies released in Hollywood and even several novels I have read as of late. It deals with betrayal, revenge and a multi-faceted villain and hero. The story is so grand that it is no surprise that the game ends in a cliff hanger. Yes, I know how much the general both loves and loathe a cliff hanging ending, but the story is too large for a single telling. The concept is that the main character, Azrel, is betrayed by his mentor Kain. He has served Kain as a loyal vampire general for 1000 years. Kain is upset that Azrel has evolved ahead of him and casts Azrel into a pit to be slowly eaten away by water. Azrel returns to the living world to reave the soles that are trapped because the world is dominated by the undead. I do not want to list too much because the game is one where you play to reveal more stories.
The story is played in either a conversation between character done is well acted full voice-over; or, in full motion animation with the voice-over as well. The game is beautiful to look upon. Between the videos, the characters and the world itself, there is little that compares on the Dreamcast.
This title is by far one of the best to be released not only on the Dreamcast, but most systems of the time. Well worth the own to anyone who still has this system.
