Busty babes & demons!

User Rating: 8.5 | La Pucelle PS2
I have mixed feelings for Lapucelle. It's a very good game and it has good voice acting all around. Typical Nippon Ichi style leveling and equipment system. However instead of Geo-Panel's such as Disgaea's you set of "miracles" by controlling the flow of dark energy. This can be a trying and irritating task, but it's the only way to improve your equipment. Leveling up is also a pain as it's exceptionally slower than any of NIS' other games. On top of that the fighting takes place in a seperate cutscene with nice quality sprites, and your whole team can appear there. However these cutscenes cannot be removed from the game or shut off in any way. So battles tend to take longer because your always cutting from map to battle. That grows tiring after awhile. Another complaint is that most of the non story line characters look utterly rediculous and cutesy. You don't get to get any vicious looking demon's till the end of the game. Theres a purification system that allows you to bring enemies to your side. And for monsters and animals (demons excluded) there is a training system like a virtual pet only very rough around the edges. Unfortunately you can't name any of your characters. Dispite all the bad, this has one of the best and deepest story lines of all NIS games. And the sprite based actors add a lot of depth to things. The story can be a bit more dark and serious than most NIS games but it still has it's comedic moments. Prier is one of my favorites and she's got a lot of personality. I suggest it for anime lovers & NIS fans. I should point out that this game has no newgame+ unless it's the EU version.
