I find this a gem simply because of its visual and audio production values.
The premise may not be epic, but the story and conflicts between your characters are interesting, which often are backed up with beautiful CG imagery. The overall set and character design is intricate so that just by admiring the details is sufficient enough not to hate the half-baked gameplay.
The combat system is a revamp of old-school grid-based tactical strategy style (what a description...) and it works for me since I love the turn-based strategy genre. But half-way through the game, one may get impatient of this kind of presentation since it slows down the pacing. Ultimately, this is actually a good game to recommend at that time due to its high production values and if you don't mind some experimenting with the unique combat system.
