Kirby Super Star Ultra is a remake of the SNES cIassic with updated visuals and a few extra modes.

User Rating: 8.5 | Kirby Super Star Ultra DS
Super Star Ultra retains all of the cIassic Kirby gameplay and styIe you expect from the series, but presents in in various bite-sized mini-adventures. Each mode has its own plotline, but all of them are somewhat related.

The first game available is Spring Breeze, the easiest of the bunch. Spring Breeze is a remake of three of the levels from Kirby's Dreamland, the first game in the series.

After Spring Breeze comes Dynablade, another short and easy game. Dynablade has Kirby bringing the titular bird Dynablade back to justice through 5 simple, but fun levels.

The Great Cave Offensive is the third true game in Super Star Ultra. GCU sees Kirby exploring a giant, open-ended world as he tries to find 60 treasures. You can finish the game by beating a few areas in a couple of hours, but finding all 60 treasures is no easy task.

Metaknight's Revenge is the fourth part of SSU, and consists of timed platforming levels. This is definitely the most cinematic game in SSU, as conversations between Metaknight's army take place while Kirby attacks there ship from the inside.

Milky Way Wishes is the final of the original games from Super Star. In Milky Way Wishes, Kirby has to travel across the galaxy collecting ability pedestals, which allow him to use any ability at any time. You don't need to find all of the powers to complete it, so going back to find them all encourages multiple play-throughs.

The Arena and Gourmet Race are two smaller modes in SSU. Arena has Kirby fighting all of the bosses in the game on one life, but with a few healing items. Gourmet race is a short, 3-course race against King Dedede or the clock. Going for high scores might interest some people, and The Arena is legitimately tough.

Revenge of the King and Metaknightmare Ultra are two extra modes added to SSU. Revenge of the King starts off as a harder version of Spring Breeze, but then adds in elements from all of the other games in SSU. Metaknightmare is a speed-run through all of the main modes of SSU as an over-powered Metaknight. Going back and beating your record is encouraged.

The last of the new games are Helper to Hero and The True Arena. Helper to Hero is a cool addition, as it puts you in control of one of Kirby's 20 helpers as you battle 13 bosses from the Arena. The True Arena is basically the Arena plus a few new bosses.

Presentation: A basic menu that gets the job done, and a few 3D cut-scenes that, at most, might make you smile. 7/10

Graphics: Slightly upgraded from the other handheld Kirby titles, there are lots of animations and detailed backgrounds. 8/10

Sound: CIassic Kirby tunes and sound effects. Nearly all of the tunes are catchy, and most will stay in your head. 8/10

Gameplay: Again, cIassic stuff here. Unfortunately, a good amount of it is easy, but so are most Kirby games. The abilities here are more expanded and fun than in most other Kirby games. Why Jet and Yo-Yo were dropped in future installments is unknown to me. 8/10

Lasting Value: There are multiple modes, but it won't take much longer than 5 or 6 hours to beat all of them. However, finding everything in the game can take a long time, and the entire game can be played in co-op. 7/10
