Starting off this game is hard. It begins nice and pretty simply, but the level of difficulty jumps pretty early on. Your forced with controlling multiple troops of different soldier classes and fighting as a hero or villain during these wild battles. Upgrading is a huge part of the game, especially if you want to win. You can upgrade your hero, officers and troops. You give them new weapons armor and increase their abilities. To upgrade you spend experience and gold you gain in battle. I find myself caught in the upgrading screens for longer then I would have thought. The choices are abundant and it's lots of fun watching your soldiers progress. You can also hire mercenaries to fill the spot of an officer either in your troop or one of the other troops. They are also upgradable. Then once your done fixing and perfecting your forces it's time to fight. The missions for Gerald and Lucretia are much more objective oriented then the missions for the other 2 campaigns of Kendal and Regnier who's goals are mainly to destroy all enemy forces. In missions you must command your troops by placing a cursor over land to move to and enemys to engage. You can also hit the d-pad and open the special abilities menu where you can send scouts, heal troops, use fire arrows, Magic attacks, and place or destroy traps which are another fun way to kill unsuspecting enemys. Battles can last any where from 10 minutes to even an hour or more if your careful and take your time. Once you engage the actual action involves combos with the "X" button speed attack and "A" button strong attack, and special moves such as calling for an officer or executing a more powerful attack which always looks really cool. Speaking of looks, it has a cool dark art style which I enjoy. The sound not so much. While most of the voice acting is done well even though most of the dialogue will be spoken by pictures, some characters sound a little bored such as General Hugh! And the Hard Metal rock music is terrible. I would much rather listen to a more epic Lord of the rings style backround music. This game has a lot in it with 48 missions in total. Good luck beating it in a weekend!
