Addictive gameplay, good blend of role-playing with turn based strategy.

User Rating: 8 | King Arthur: The Role-Playing Wargame PC
Reading the mixed reviews, I waiting until this one came available on sale at Steam. OK, so it is similar to total war in many regards; this is not a bad thing. What makes King Arthur interesting is the ability to level up your characters with a variety of abilities and magic spells, eventually becoming super-powerful heroes. A calvary charge is headed towards your archers? No problem, hit them with Slow or Venemous Curse (a spell which slows and damages). There actually IS strategy in this game, and the AI is very good. Based on what I have read about high difficulty, I played this game on the easy version ( in between the easiest and normal). This provided a good challenge without getting too frustrating. I had thought I would play another round on Normal, but the later parts of the game are more time consuming and not as enjoyable, so unlikely I will play again....but the replay value is definitely there in that you can pick different allegiances, quests, etc.
Battles themselves are not as good as total war in terms of graphics, but are actually more manageable, strategic, and perhaps even satisfying.
I've logged 50 hours in this game before beating it, and hours 10-40 or so were really addicting. With a bigger budget for graphics and cut-scenes, King Arthur would rate a 9.
