User Rating: 9 | Kinetica PS2
Kinetica is not your typical racing game. Most gamers are probably used to car or motorcycle racing games. In kinetica, the characters wear suits that they use to race. The gameplay is a little off. While it is fun, and the feeling of speed is great (especiall with the boost), there are certain places on the tracks where you are stopped dead in your tracks if you run into a certain point. Frustrating! Also, when I started playing this game and saw that it had seasons, I assumed that it had a scoring systsm, sort of like Nascar. Then at the end the racer with the most points was the winner. It's not like that at all. I was really disappointed when I realized that you unlock season 2 by getting 3rd or better in the 4 races in season one. Season 3 is unlocked by getting 2nd or better in the 4 races in season two. Three new tracks and three new characters are available to be unlocked, and that's it! Not very extensive. Other than that, this is a very fun game. The tracks are all very cool, some based on jumps, some filled with boost meters, some aren't your typical track (i.e. the side of a mountain is one track). You get boost three ways. With the boost meters, doing stunts during jumps or while racing, or collecting crystals. Five crystals gets you a power-up, but it's not as cool as it might seem at first. All of the power-ups have something to do with boost, except the burst attack. Overall, this is a very fun game, it's kind of a nice break from the rpg's where you have to strategize and plan your attack. It's kind of relaxing (if you don't let the frustration get to you). I wouldn't pay $50 for this game. Buy it used or rent it.
