Liberation takes the PSP beyond it's limits and shows what fast-paced third-person shooters should be.

Let's face it: The first Killzone game on the PS2, well, simply put, sucked, so when I first heard this was coming out, I wasn't too sure how they were going to make it any better on a handheld system, but, even with my suspicouns, (or how ever you spell it) I decided to pick it up at my local Game Stop. And I wasn't disappointed. The game takes on a completely different style of game than the first, featuring a top-down shooter style of view and some tactical gameplay. You play as Templar, a human captain set out to stop general Metrac, who leads the Helghast in the countless invasions put against the ISA. Along the way, you will have comrades that you can tell orders too and to cover you while you are setting up C4, etc. Most of the time this will be a badass dude named Rico, who, I will warn you, says "Sh!t" and "A$$hole" a ton. The game has gorgeous graphics and design, and cut scenes look like they could be a PS2 game, which is a good compliment. And, what I like about the game the most, is that it soon becomes f*cking difficult! I am a relatively hard-core gamer, so I set the difficulty level to "hard" and by the second level in the campaign, I was freaking out every two minutes about "How in the hell did I just die?" I won't say I'm the best at games, but I can sense when something is truly hard to even the most extreme PSPer. (or whatever) One of the things I really liked was the multi-player. For it's time, it has the best multi-player on the PSP. It's fun, addicting, and intense. People are still online now, and you can also customize your online character, even though it's very limited. Some flaws, though, are that the game is relatively short, spanning about 10-12 hours with multiplayer. I do believe they released a whole new chapter thats currently availible for download, but it really only adds on a max (I emphasize max) of about two and-a-half hours, anyway. There is also a thing called challenge games, where each campaign level you complete (there's four total) you unlock six of these challenge games, where you can unlock character points which can be used for getting special abilities. (such as the ability to carry extra frags or getting some extra health) Some of these abilities can actually help you a lot in battle, too. All in all, Killzone: Liberation, whilst short and slightly repetitive, is a fun experience and is a must-have for any action fan with a PSP.
