Starts out with a bang, but slowly fizzles into a short poorly structured chore.

User Rating: 6 | Kane & Lynch: Dead Men PC
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men has a lot of good ideas, but most of them could have been executed better. Simple squad ordering, cover system with blind firing, small army sized escorts, expanded health degradation system. These all sound awesome, but their implementation leaves something to be desired.

Lets start with your team mates. Squad ordering is accomplished by selecting the team mate you want to command then pointing your cross hair at a specific location and hitting one of the three command keys follow, attack, or move. For the most part your squad follows well, I never saw anyone get stuck. However, maybe they follow a little to well, sometimes they stand between the camera and your character making it impossible to aim. There is no real need for the second command (attack) since there really isn't a big tactical advantage to specifying targets. I never used this command during the entire game. The third command, move has its uses, mostly for getting them out of your way. For the most part your team feels very under competent usually requiring you take out 90% of the opponents.

The combat system is a mess, and is the single most frustrating feature of the game (obviously, this being a combat game). It doesn't really matter if your crouched behind that concrete blockade, the enemies will shoot the half inch of your head sticking above the cover or your toe thats poking out from behind the wall. All the while your weapons couldn't hit a barn door from 10 feet. To make matters worse, each enemy is wearing 10 Kevlar vests, or so it seams, each taking 10 rounds from a rifle before falling. And forget about head shots, they don't bring them down any quicker. Blind firing is useless because of all this. Unless the enemy is standing right out in the open 10 feet away your not going to hit them often enough to make it worth it, especially with your limited ammo supply. Your health slowly recovers if you keep from getting hit for a period (ala Call of Duty), but there is another aspect to the health system. If you get shot to much you fall down to the ground and wait for a team mate to come shoot you with some adrenaline. Although too much adrenaline in a short amount of time makes you OD and die. This works well and is probably the only thing I liked about the combat system.

The voice acting is well done although not great most of the times. There are a few weaker performances that ruin the mood and feel. The dialog sounds like it was written by an angry middle school kid who thinks its cool to say f*** every other word. It becomes comedic, repetitive, and often annoying. The storyline starts strong, but as the game progresses it becomes a jumbled mess of un-fleshed out plot hooks.

To top it all off, its short, even with me getting stuck some times it only took me 2 days to finish. And forget about multiplayer redeeming it, there are no servers to play on!

In conclusion, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is a disappointing mess of poor storytelling and average gameplay.
