A Chomping Good Time!

User Rating: 8.7 | Jaws Unleashed XBOX
I can't believe this game got only a 3.8 in its review. The controls seem to be getting the biggest bad press but if you were a marine biologist, you'd think they got things pretty close. After playing the game for a couple of hours, I now have the controls wired. There are two control options and the second one seems to work the best. The most rewarding games seem to be the ones that force you to put in at least a little time to get good at them. If you put in the time, you'll see how truly spot-on the controls are. If I were to have only twenty minutes with the game, I would have left frustrated but now I cruise the ocean floor like a highly maneuverable jet!. This game is just plain fun and deserves way better than the 3.8 it received. Majesco continues to impress me and to think that I almost passed on this one due to the review it received! Furthermore, the little details do make this game shine such as:
A. The way the sharks membranes rolls up over it's eyes when it's eating...just like the real thing..so many tiny details!
B. Different types of sea-life respond differently to you and there's tons of stuff to mess around with (and eat!)
C. Cool combos...my favorite is where you stealth attack someone and drag them along the surfact of the water and then throw them into the air and jump out of the water and chomp them mid-air (too cool)
D. The intuitive gameplay: one mission has you grabbing torpedos from a wrecked submarine and then ramming them into oil platforms to take them down (just like how Brody killed the shark in Jaws, if a human on the platform shoots the torpedo in your mouth, you lose a huge chunk of health....there are tons of nods to the movie franchise in the game). Don't believe the review, there are tons of cool missions. I'm only 5 missions into the game and they have all been fun, imaginative and spun based on content from the movies. Care to bust a diver out of his secure cage to eat him...you can do it!
E. The underwater world looks simply incredible...especially on a high def. setup that supports the game's high-def setting (it also has a widescreen TV setting)
F. The stuff about lining up your attacks just isn't correct...there is a target lock that makes taking out even nimble dolphins a cake-walk.
I could go on and on about the things that make this GTA style free-roaming ocean adventure fun but will stop with the bottom line...this game is as fun as they come. There's a lot to like here.
