The best Jak game ever made, and possibly one of the best games period.

User Rating: 10 | Jak II: Renegade PS2
Despite the title, Jak II is still a Jak and Daxter game. However, the game has been completely redone and does not resemble its predecessor much at all. For starters, there are guns now. The Eco system is gone and instead it features a "Morph gun" with four different settings, each with a different color, presumably to correspond with one of the forgotten Ecos (the game takes place in the future, so it sort of makes sense that the population of Jakworld would have taken this step forward). Even though it has guns, though, it is still a platformer at heart and still has plenty of Precursor artifact-riddled environments to jump all over....The greatest part of the game takes place inside Haven City, a walled city controlled by the ruthless Baron Praxis. After going into the future, the Baron captures Jak and performs various Dark Eco experiments on him, in hopes that he will be able to defeat the Metal Heads, a new race of insect like creatures that threaten to destroy the city. The first third of the game is spent trying to get revenge on the Baron, but then Jak realizes that the only important thing is ending the war and restoring peace to the world. Gameplay-wise, Haven City plays like a Grand Theft Auto game. It is huge, and you can steal "Zoomers" and drive wherever you want. The large, open level design of the first game is gone, and this time the game features a more linear mission system, although you do still have choices sometimes. The gameplay is even more fast paced and exiting than that of the first and the plot is ten times as good, featuring a ridiculous amount of twists and turns and a good number of time-travel paradoxes as well. It can be confusing if you don't pay
attention, and there are a few little plot holes here and there, but not enough to demerit this excellent game. The graphics are much clearer than last time, although there is a weird horizontal tear effect that shows up if you turn the camera too quickly. And Jak II fixed the biggest problem I had with the 1st game: it is quite challenging, especially if you are expecting another Precursor Legacy.
Overall: Excellent game, easily the best I've played on the PS2, should be regarded as one of the best games of the generation in my opinion. The plot, graphics and gameplay are nearly perfect and I see no reason why this should not get a perfect score. And I usually don't give out perfect scores.
