The Jak and Ratchet franchises go hand in hand, sharing games engines, in game salutations, etc. Still, they're very different which has led to fans being divided into two camps - hate Ratchet or hate Jak. So basically an old fashioned east coast/west coast hip hop battle. I'll try my best to stay out o that fight. Jak II incorporates a few of the winners from the first Ratchet & Clank, most notably the addition of a weapons arsenal. And quite frankly your missions with newly aquired fire power are awesome. Jak handles as well as any platform character and the bad guys are varied and challenging. There are other, totally innovative additions in Jak II as well. The developers have opted to plant Jak's missions in a "GTA" type world, where you travel around in vehicles furthering the story while picking up new missions. Some people love it, but in my mind it just works as a way of extending the total playing time while keeping you away from the excellent platform action.
