GTA in a platformer setting?! Wow!

User Rating: 8.7 | Jak II: Renegade PS2
Here is a game that going into it, though it was going to be your typical platformer, run jump, swing, pick up coins, etc. all the things you would expect from a platformer. Boy what a suprise when I finally made it into the city. You are able to steal hover cars, buy weapons and just jump around, this game is more like GTA than the original Jak. The missions are pretty linear, but being able to run around a city and do what you would like with the local town folk is quite a bit of fun. More than anything it was a very plesant suprise. The graphics - While the game was made a few years ago, it still holds up pretty well. The special effects and explosions all look fairly decent and for a platformer look that much better. The textures and character models look decent and some of the monsters look pretty cool. The sound - This is where the game shines. Good voice acting, and great sound effects really help put this game over the top. Great gun sounds and car sounds really add a lot to the experience. Some very funny script writing as well. Overall this game is much much darker than the original, and while it is still Teen, the game obviously has it's darker side. Jak can turn into a sort of demon type thing and will throw lighting bolts at his enemies. If you are looking for a pleasent suprise, check out Jak II you will not be dissapointed.
