Quite possibly the best platformer ever.

User Rating: 10 | Jak II: Renegade PS2
Jak II is quite possibly the best platformer I've ever played. Yes, it is better and more enjoyable than Super Mario 64. The massive amounts of varied gameplay available here within Jak II's world of Haven City is mind boggling. Jak II has a wonderful story which includes a cool trip into the future of Jak and Daxter's world as they attempt to alter the future. Jak has now been affected by Dark Eco treatments and is able to transform into Dark Jak where his abilites and strength change dramatically. The cutscenes are perfectly scripted, and the game is a gameplay powerhouse. Here's the lowdown on Jak II: Gameplay: Jak controls perfectly as he did in the original title. Every movement is a cinch to pull off. Gunplay is added in this sequel and is easy to adapt to. There is tons of gameplay variety in your missions. Jak has a hoverboard now, can ride in turrets, and drive vehicles. You name it and Jak's got it. Everything is woven together with a cohesiveness that is extremely satisfying. When you finally beat that tough mission or boss, you get satisfaction unlike any other titles. Graphics: A visual masterpiece. Jak and Daxter look stunning. The game world is massive and beautiful. Of particular note, the forest level is extremely beautiful with waterfalls, rendered grass, and light streaming through the trees. This is one of the best looking PS2 titles yet. Lighting is equally impressive as are the particle effects and animations. Progressive scan (480p) further enhances this titles beauty. Sound: The soundtrack is beautiful and the character voices are second-to-none. Everyone sounds their part, and the sound effects are well done. Dolby Digital II support rounds out an already impressive package. Value: At about 15 hours for the first play-thru (more if you like to get everything) Jak II is a good size platform adventure. Considering how well this is done, it's worth every bit of $39.99. Bottom Line: Quite possibly the best platformer ever. Review brought to you by: BL1NDS1DE / RYSHIDENXBL
