Jak 2 takes the series in a new, yet familiar direction for PS2 fans. The new direction is the fact that this game is no longer the happy go lucky, one sided 'mascot' affair that Jak & Daxter was. It's oddly refreshing to play a platformer/action game that has an intriguing plot and enjoyable characters (even though Daxter can be a bit overbearing at times). The familiar part comes when you realize that the whole 'open world' concept comes straight from the rules of GTA. The only problem I have with this is the fact that in GTA there's more then one way to get to any one place - you're not pigeon holed into taking the ONLY route that will accomplish what you need to get done (especially when it comes to the many, many timed missions). There's a hefty balance of missions to accomplsh that don't relie solely on the 'collect this' style. While there are plenty of those, the range of missions from blasting around, platforming, get from point A to point B, and collect this missions bring a breath of fresh air to the genre. And having Jak talk acts as a great counterbalance to Daxter's overabundant personality - trust me, you'll be glad to hear another person's voice other then Daxter's halfway through the game. So if you have even an inkling for platformers and you're a sucker for a good story line to boot - you should definately buy this game. Especially now that it's a Greatest Hits, you have no excuses.
If you liked the first jak and daxter game, you'll absolutely love the smash hit sequel and positively the best in the series! The gameplay is bit similar with the different styles of attacks and movement to the first... Read Full Review
