In Baldur's Gate its you VS the rest of the world and who ever you can find and convince to join you on your quest. Icewind Dale II On the other hand lets you build your party from the start so you can tailor your party to your own style of play or to try a differant style that you would not think to try.
As with past games Icewind Dale II throws you in at the deep end and expect you to swim and bake a cake all at the same time but to be honest that is the fun of a game like this. Saving a town with a band or group of people that you your self have built up and not some pre-made guys that the story tells you you have to use is always a great feeling.
