Definitely one of the best racing games of the modern arcade.

By far, one of the best modern racing games I've seen in the arcade. The controls are great, react naturally, and the wheel comes with it's own hard to control "realistic" rumble. This, mixed in with exciting tracks, fast speed boats, and breath taking jumps make out for a very satisfying arcade experience.

The turbo boost system works nicely, and trying to grab extra boosts in mid-air during jumps is possibly the most challenging fun factor in this game.

The graphics were unpresidented for it's time, and more detailed compared to some you still see.

Another dumb-fun aspect of the game was the in-game voice. “Are You cRazY??,” “No Way!”... etc. Don’t take this game too seriously; you’ll find yourself laughing at the “extreme” nature of this game.

Sadly, the remakes and sequels for this game were mediocre comparitively to the arcade version. If you want your arcade memories ruined; try to find the N64, PS, or Dreamcast port. If you want to see sequels that ruin a great series; find Offroad Thunder or Arctic Thunder.

Luckily, you can still find Hydro Thunder in some arcades. And even more lucky, it’s hard to find it’s sequels.
