The choices we make matter

User Rating: 8 | Heavy Rain PS3

Heavy Rain is one of the most cinematic games of all time. Heavy Rain is a 2010 interactive movie action adventure game and the gaming community seems indecisive if they like it or not. But let me be your final opinion.

Heavy Rain is about Ethan Mars. A man who had a loving wife, house, everything and family until Jason died in a mall car accident. Ethan is now lost. He lives divorced with his young son. One day at the park his son got nabbed while he didn't even notice. Plot Twists in Heavy Rain ensue. Heavy Rain twines such a deep and complex narrative that it rivals the M.Night Shamalan movies of old. Tears will be jerked and truths will be uncovered.

GAMEPLAY

Heavy Rain is an interactive movie but not like those Sega CD games of the 90's. No it's a slow paced 3D adventure game. You can play as multiple protagonists in 24 chapters making the game rather long. You can interact with the environments and talk to people. Making choices that will lead to 5 endings. If you die the game moves on. This game is mostly Quick time events as your character must do any action function by a punch or kick if the game tells you to do so. If you have the PS3 version make sure that you have the blue tooth six axis controller or the game will not respond to your functions such as moving up shaving which is needed to do.

GRAPHICS

Heavy Rain has abnormally good graphics for the PlayStation 3. Which is saying something as most PS3 games look withdrawn with drawn plasticy on average (Fallout New Vegas). They are super atmospheric and realistic. There is much emotion in the faces that are very realistic. t There is as much love and detail and lighting in the environment as much as an animated film. They can be low res at times but overall. They are moody and wonderful with many novelties and varieties of locations. You'll see fuzz on the carpet or water on a window sill. Hair waves and so does cloth. Heavy Rain is truely atmospheric. Especially with that seamless interface of context icons. Camera angles bring a next level of cinematic power to Heavy Rain like an actual movie. The camera cuts to the character as he performs a specific function. Follows as they walk and more. Though can get kind of awkward as every function is done as he does (using the bathroom, showering, more) . Post processing effects such as depth the field and motion blur through out. The shadows are deep. Heavy Rain is a truly beautiful game.

SOUND

Heavy Rain has some cheesy voice acting but it's fine. HR has some good music. Ranging from nice pianos to Han Zimmer computer cheese. But overall it's nice. There aren't too many interface sfx so it makes it nice.

OVERALL

Heavy Rain is a good game. Not for all though but still nice. It's for those who want a story and not just shoot guns and hoops.
