User Rating: 6.8 | Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets XBOX
An average game that has some excellent moments, but is held back mainly due to extremely poor camera control coupled together with a very frustrating character control. The camera is very sloppy and seems to swerve around at random, and usually won't go the direction you want it to go, so you end up fighting off-screen monsters not knowing what's going on, or making leaps where you cannot see where you are jumping to. And what's with the horrible character control? It's like they tried to oversimplify the controls but instead they turned them into something just barely tolerable - give me back my jump button at least!!! I have to add that I read the book and saw the movie this game was based on, and I must say it's a good thing I did because otherwise I wouldn't have understood what the game was about, in fact even with my previous knowledge it still comes across as a swirling mess. But I have to say the game was interesting enough for me to finish. The graphics generally look very nice, the sound and music are superb if only a little repetative. I did get a huge kick out of walking around Harry's world for the very short time the game actually lasted. One big minus for me is that it's yet another game for my Xbox that doesn't allow me to save anywhere, which led to some very long sessions where I was forcing myself to continue until the next checkpoint long after I wanted to quit for the day. Game Developers - we HAVE a hard drive, please learn how to use it to allow us to SAVE ANYWHERE. In summary, if you can find this game for less than $20 like I did, or give a it rent for a week, AND you really like Harry Potter, then I can recommend it. Otherwise there is nothing really spectacular to see here and you'll just be frustrated trying to figure out the story and using the camera and controls to play the game. (PS: I hated the Quiddich stuff - it was fun to see but just flying thru hoops was boring to play)
