Overview: This is a rare game that not many people know about. Anyone that has played the 2-D Shinobi games on Sega will see some similarities in this game. In Hagane you are a robotic ninja that has many weapons and attacks at his disposal. You can change weapons on the fly or while the game is paused. The jumping to the game takes a bit of getting used to because it requires timing to pull off the somersault move. There are also strong attacks that require you to charge them up. The game throws many enemies at you at a time and there is no slowdown. Difficulty and Length: The game has five levels that are divided in around 4 short subsections each. You get unlimited continues in the game but if you run out of lives, you have to restart from the very beggining of the level you're at. The bosses are pretty challenging and the stages will throw plenty of traps at you. Once you get proficient with the controls, you will be racing through the levels making quick work of the enemies. You cannot change the difficultly at the options screen. You will have to beat the game to access a higher difficulty. The fact that enemies sometimes randomly drop bombs and extra lives can make it easier. Presentation: The game has pretty good graphics and there usually is a lot happening on the screen at once. The game also offers a nice variety with the backgrounds. The bosses to the game are impressive and some are kind of strange/silly. All of the regular enemies have animated attacks and you do not get hurt by touching them. Conclusion: The game is fast, fun, and offers a decent challenge. I reccomend this game to any 2-D action fan.
