Supergiant needs more fresh ideas

User Rating: 6 | Hades (Early Access) PC

I've played the previous games of supergiant company including: bastion, transistor and pyre and I liked them. They are 7.5/10 for me and it is high rating considering that I'm generally a strategy games fan not role playing and roguelike games.

Supergiant created their own style with specific elements such as cartoony graphics, colorful atmospheres and smooth gameplay. So you can say hades is their work at the first glance. With tons of positive reviews and high ratings, I hoped for a good game with some improvements and innovations, but it wasn't interesting enough that might have prevented me from uninstalling it halfway.

Honestly, it wasn't a total letdown for me and I'm happy to try it, but it didn't offer much new things. Same graphics and sound style, which actually aren't bad but also not fresh as they were ten years ago. And the biggest issue for me was the gameplay itself!

In bastion and transistor, you played as a character and fight a vast variety of enemies from start point to the end of story. In hades, every time you die, you return to the starting point, which is his home, and you see same characters and can buy new items. This is not annoying for the first 10 or 20 times, but after that it feels really repetitive. On the other hand, there aren't much variety in enemies and missions, you just go from one room to the next and Kill some random creatures.

overall, not that bad, but not as good as previous games of this publisher. my rating: 6.5/10
