User Rating: 9.3 | Guilty Gear XX: The Midnight Carnival PS2
Now, I have to say I love my fighting games. But in recent years, there have not been many good ones. Although there are a few. This is one of the great ones that should go down in history as a classic. Gameplay and Story: Amazingly (as always) Guilty Gear manages a good story for a fighting game. In fact I think it's the only fighting game that I've actually liked the story. Now, the last Guilty Gear for the PS2 (Guilty Gear X) was amazing. But this takes that same formula, and creates an even better game. There are new characters and fighting techniques. This is also one of those games where you want to learn the story behind every character and you'll fall in love with each and everyone. As any fighting game, the characters in this one have their special attacks. But the thing is, they are really difficult. In fact the whole game is very hard. The only reason I didn't put "very hard" under "difficulty" is because it's not unbeatable, it'll just get you a little angry. But trust me. You'll always come back for more. There are also missions in this game, and you can earn some pretty good things (and bragging rights). These missions are very hard sometimes. But truley, it's about time we had a hard fighting game. One that can deliver a challenge to it's gamers. Although there were times I wanted to hit myself in the head with the controler, I still like a challenge. Graphics and Sound: Lets start with the sound (I know I don't usually start there, but with this game, I feel I must). It's very heavy metal. If your not into the heavy stuff, just turn the volume off. But me, personally, I like it. I'm not a heavy metal fan by any means, but the music fits the game well. Now the graphics. This is not your 3d fighter. No. It's old school 2d and actually manages to look better than it's 3D counterparts. The graphics will leave you stunned. I really think Guilty Gear is the last of the breed of 2D fighters. Absolutley amazing. Summery: This is a very hard game at times, so if your in for a casual gaming experience, your going to find out really soon that this game is not for you. But if you like your games challenging this is for you. Also, the original Japanese voices are in this game. :) (Don't worry, there are English subtitles)
