A Good Video Game That Would Feel a Lot Better If It Didn't Try To Copy the First One So Much!

I can't really blame Sega for wanting to have a dependable franchise that they could go to whenever they wanted to put out a video game that would pull in dependable numbers of video game players who would play it, regardless of what the video game actually contained. While they eventually found their solid franchise in "Sonic The Hedgehog", they first tried making a franchise out of "Golden Axe". Now to be fair, this game is structurally better than its predecessor. The controls feel a lot faster and handle a lot better. The graphics are better, and the music and sound effects are better to. There still isn't much of a story though, but I can overlook that since this game came out at a time when video games still weren't expected to really tell stories. I found the ax wielding dwarf to once again be the best character. Sometimes, mooks will come riding in on weird reptile things. Some of them can swing their tails like an ax, others can breathe fire! If you knock the mooks off of those reptiles, you can ride on one of them; presumably for the rest of the stage if you are able to! Although the controls are better, the mooks seem to be quite a bit smarter in this video game. For instance, they now have the tendency to rush at you and knock you down to the ground! Also, there are no longer as many opportunities for you to exploit the old "Throw Them Down A Pit" trick that you could in the first game, so you'll have to beat most of those mooks the old-fashioned way. You won't be able to play against the final two bosses unless you beat at least the Normal level of difficulty, so hone your skills in the easy mode first; than prepare yourself for the real test! If it weren't for the fact that this game plays fundamentally almost the same as the first one, this game would seem a lot better to play! Still, if you want to play a solid platform game originally for the Sega Genesis, I recommend seeking out this game to play now, on the Sega Genesis Virtual Console for the Nintendo Switch! Enough said, true believers!
