An experience worth the time

User Rating: 10 | God of War PS4

The game makes an incredible transition from pure hack and slash title to a hybrid build around number of genres while providing a massive dept of content. You get that unique feeling when creators/developers made their products with love and decication and not just for cash grabbing.

The story is simple but in a great/not over the top way. Just enough from everything - action, twists, background motivations, side quests and Nordic mythology. Its filled with characters and side stories which provide a "wise" angle on a lot of topics which concern modern society. For example, the things which we potentialy envy the Gods the most - immortality, power, lack of purpose are shown in a really resfreshing light. Kratos is made far more complex on a serious scale and it fits him well. Not once I felt "just be over it already" - the whole story ark just gets you invested in it.

The fight system is as good as it gets which its said mildly. Plenty of variety for weapons, opponents and combat style. Your son is not just tagging around, he has a real impact - IMO far deeper than your companions in Uncharted or The last of Us. The game is very challenging and even in the later phases, your opponents can get the best of you. Plenty of incredible fighting sequences which hardly ever get repeative.

The soundtrack is great, the open world fits well with the game. Its time to mention some minor "cons" which are not really bad but mostly the natural tendency of us to seek perfection, in this case - what could make this unmatch, phenomenal game even better:

1. The absence of mortals, human population - I mean you see mostly - gods, supernatural enemies and supernatural alies. IMO they had to add some human cities or villagers. First of all they would have made the the world more "real" and secondly, by interacting with them, Kratos and his son could have got even more depth.

2. In some sections of the game, the kid its just unbearable and I think the creators overpush the idea behind it because suddenly he becomes grown up and likeble again.

3. They didnt showed up the mother but I suppose its kept for the sequels

4. The game is visibly "holding your hand" with hints, telling you in what direction to go. Personaly, this slightly takes away from the pleasure advancing on your own

Bottom end, my advice is go get the game ... at its current price because this is the way to say "Thank you" to Santa Monica studio. In times in which, to be politicaly correct and to make sure money are the main focus for the whole industry, God of war is a fresh bit of air
