An excellent hardcore action game that will remain a classic for years to come!

To make it plain and simple, God of War is a great action game. For its time, when released for the PS2, there really was nothing quite like it. The only game that came close to giving me a surreal feeling was Resident Evil 4 when it released about 3 months earlier on Gamecube.

The game starts off with a bang with an epic boss fight, and then finds its groove after that with a compelling adventure that will make you dread putting down the controller.

The controls are simplistic enough for you to get the idea rather quickly, while still remain complex enough for you to try new combat ideas and combos.

The presentation for its time is absolutely breathtaking! While looking at the game now may look dated, it is still one of the better looking games on the PS2. The music is also epic. In the heat of battle, epic Greek mythology scores pound on you which will make your heart rate accelerate. There are also some scores that give you a euphoric, ambient feeling when you are exploring or figuring out puzzles. To sum up, the music is great!

Now for some of the complaints. While this game is excellent, it's not without some flaws...

For example, in some combat situations, it can be difficult to grab some enemies with the "grab icon" above their head when in the thick of things. There are some instances where I intended to grab one enemy, yet mistakenly grabbed another. Furthermore, when I intend to grab one, Kratos won't grab them, leaving me exposed to other attacks.

The same could be said about the grab controls while climbing. There are some situations where you make be taking damage when grabbing an enemy and there is nothing you can do.

Other than those minor quibbles, God of War is an essential gaming experience. And might I suggest you try it on one of the harder difficulties, it will feel more epic. But don't worry, it's not as hard as Titan Mode on God of War II!!
