No items, potions, or real fun in sight

User Rating: 4 | Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows PS2
Ok, we can all admit that the graphics are pretty good and the sound is classic Gaunlet, so nice.

And then gameplay comes in. Let my point out right now that there are no items....period. Keys? Gone Potions? Nope What drops from chests then? Gold, food, armor or weapon upgrades, and keys. That's it!

Before any of you think I'm not a huge Gauntlet fan, I preordered this game close to 5 months ago. I love Dark Legacy (especially for the cube) and would have enjoyed it for the ps2 if not for the blue-back crap.

You have 3 stats now: damage, hp, and mana regen. The mana regen is for the "potion like effect" you can pull off every so often, and the "super moves" that use mana.

What is the gold for? Your hp goes back up to full at the end of each level, so gold is used to buy moves. Yes, you can buy the combo x,x,x or x,x,Triangle. While some of these are useful, most arn't.

Can you still pick your own levels? Not really. You start the game and are lead by the nose from one level to the next, you cannot choose to do the level over unless you want to either start the game over, or go back to a load game and choose your up-to-date character.

Monsters still created by generators? Yes and no. There are a lot of mobs that are, but now there are a lot of them that just pop in out of the background. While this is nice to keep you on your toes, it just gets annoying when you're fighting in one direction to kill a few generators and a speedy mob comes up behind you from nowhere.

How long is the game? about 4-5 hours.

5.2 rating? They were generous.
