Star Wars The Mandalorian: The Best Baby Yoda Season 1 Moments
When The Mandalorian premiered on Disney+ last year, it introduced one of most beloved characters in the Star Wars franchise. Yes, of course we're talking about The Child--colloquially known as Baby Yoda. From his first time popping up in a floating bassinet to his repeated use of force powers, practically everything the tiny green creature did was a standout moment.
As you prepare for the Season 2 premiere of The Mandalorian on Friday, October 30, it's time to look back on The Child's absolute best moments. Whether because they show how powerful he is or just how adorable he happens to be in practically every scene of the series, there's plenty to love about Baby Yoda.
Take a look below at our 20 favorite Baby Yoda moments. Then make sure to check out our Season 1 refresher to prepare for the new episodes and our Season 2 wishlist to see the things that really need to happen when The Mandalorian returns on Friday, October 30.
1. His first appearance (Chapter 1)
We met The Child at the end of the series premiere and from that first moment he was iconic. Upon being discovered by Mando (and saved from being killed by a droid), the two touched hands and our hearts were stolen.
2. The first time he used the force (Chapter 2)
It didn't take long for the biggest revelation about Baby Yoda to be revealed. As Mando fought--and was losing to--a massive mudhorn, The Child raised his hands and suddenly the beast was floating in mid-air. What an epic moment that was, quickly followed by an exhausted Baby Yoda falling backward to sleep.
3. When he ate the frog (Chapter 2)
A kid's gotta eat and Baby Yoda was quick to show everyone what his preferred delicacy is, swallowing a frog whole.
4. When he made friends (Chapter 4)
When Mando and The Child traveled to Sargon, the little guy made friends with local kids. At long last, he found someone who wanted to play with him.
5. When he almost ate another frog in front of the kids (Chapter 4)
Watching him eat a frog was entertaining, it was even better when he started to do it again in front of his new friends but ultimately spit it up, which brought them all glee.
6. When he tried to play with the knob (Chapter 3)
Hanging out on Mando's ship isn't all that fun for a kid, so it's no surprise he tried to entertain himself by claiming the knob from a lever as a toy and snack, only for Mando to take it away.
7. When Mando finally gave him the knob (Chapter 6)
Watching Mando warm up to and become protective of Baby Yoda throughout Season 1 was a highlight of the series. The easiest way to see how the relationship between the two changed came in Chapter 6, when Mando willingly handed over the knob from his control panel for The Child to play with.
8. When he sipped his soup (Chapter 4)
Baby Yoda gets hungry and a meme is born. If there's one image of The Child in your mind, chances are it's him sipping soup from a mug while Mando and Cara Dune fight.
9. When he watched Mando vaporize someone (Chapter 2)
Early in their relationship, there are a number of fun moments between The Child and Mando--including watching the infant as he watches Mando vaporize someone trying to do them harm.
10. When he tried to heal Mando (Chapter 2)
After that particular fight, Baby Yoda also tried to heal Mando, though the Mandalorian warrior wouldn't let it happen. It was the first real tease of his force sensitivity, though it wouldn't be fully displayed until later in the episode.
11. When he gleefully watched Mando snipe Jawas (Chapter 2)
The smile on The Child's face, while Mando is sniping the Jawas that stripped his ship, is incredibly entertaining.
12. When he pushed buttons (Chapter 4)
Before he was allowed to play with the knob, The Child had to do something to keep himself busy. Of course, that meant randomly punching buttons on the control panel until Mando made him stop.
13. When he didn't listen (Chapter 4)
When they land on Sargon, Mando tells The Child to stay put while he investigates the planet. Naturally, Baby Yoda refuses to listen and, instead, follows his surrogate dad.
14. When he was scared of a lothcat (Chapter 4)
Given the spooky stuff he encounters--like this lothcat that freaks him out--perhaps Baby Yoda should've stayed on the ship like Mando asked.
15. When he got a babysitter (Chapter 5)
Upon landing on Mos Eisley in Chapter 5, Mando agrees to pay a woman to service his ship. What the woman doesn't realize is that Baby Yoda is onboard and doesn't stay put very long, leading to her also working to take care of the little guy.
16. When he thought he used the force (Chapter 6)
There's one standout moment in Chapter 6 when someone attempts to harm The Child. He thinks he's using the force to stop the creature, but really Mando takes care of him with his blaster. Still, seeing Baby Yoda look at his hand to figure out what, exactly, happened was awesome.
17. When he tried to steer the ship (Chapter 7)
While Mando and Cara Dune talked strategy in the cargo hold of the ship, Baby Yoda popped his head into the room just to make sure nobody was keeping an eye on him. He then took control of the ship, which did not go well and could have crashed them all. Even though the infant is 50, he's too young to drive--even in space.
18. When he showed his dark side (Chapter 7)
Another great, but scary moment comes in Chapter 7. When he sees Mando and Cara arm wrestling, he assumes Cara is attacking his surrogate father and uses his force powers to choke Dune. He simply doesn't know any better. Thankfully, Mando chastises him for it.
19. When he healed Greef Karga (Chapter 7)
While Mando didn't let The Child use his healing powers in Chapter 2, he gets to display them here. While Greef is convinced Baby Yoda is trying to eat him, he's actually healing some pretty serious wounds.
20. When IG-11 took him for a ride (Chapter 8)
How will you ever forget the look on Baby Yoda's face when he's going on a speederbike ride with IG-11, as the droid blasts stormtroopers left and right?
