1. Finding Out Samus Aran Is a Woman in Metroid
(WARNING: Spoilers ahead, people!) In the early years of video games, 99 percent of protagonists were male—until Metroid came along. Fans lucky enough to reach the "best" ending saw alien hunter Samus Aran without her suit, revealing her true identity as a femme fatale.

The third installment in the Metal Gear Solid series also ends with three significant plot twists: The Boss was working for the U.S. all along, EVA was actually a triple-agent sent by the Chinese, and Ocelot was actually ADAM the whole time. What!?
