it depends on what kind of action your going to perform with the class your creating, if your rushing you want good mobility but also good power, and also extra health to take a beating on the front lines. if your going to be sneaking around and surprising the enemy you again want good mobility a silenced weapon and some way to set up booby traps.

most people will say that some set up with an assault rifle(m16, M4, AK) and tripple frag, stoping power, and penetration is pretty text book stuff.

I like the UAV jammer. So if your sniping people actually have to find you instead of seeing you on their radar.

Different classes will suit different maps better....for instance, for enclosed/smaller maps I use:

P90

3x Frags

Sonic Boom

Martyrdom

Reason: The P90 is a bullet hose so its perfect for smaller maps, 3x frags and martyrdom coupled with sonic doom means your frags have a bigger blast radius so its harder for someone to run away from your dropped grenade after you die plus your regular frags will be hard to escape also.

COD4 is fairly well balanced so there is no one BEST setup that everyone can use.

I would say one of the biggest factors is your accuracy. If you aren't very accurate go for weapons that spray bullets and have high damage. Couple that up with stopping power and penetration and you will drop enemies quickly.

If your accuracy is better then you can go for more precise weapons that do less damage per bullet, and switch out some of the perks to give you different benefits.

i agree the game is pretty balanced and rewards you for using different weapons for a given situation. On close quarter maps like "Vacant" shotguns and SMG's are extremely effective but on larger maps like "Overgrown" and "Pipeline" Assault Rifles and Sniper Rifles are very dominant. LMG's are effective anywhere you can find a bottleneck or choke point where you can set up and unleash hell. Almost anyone will tell you the M16 is overpowered or the best weapon but it depends on your style of play. I think the RPD is far more devastating than the M16.

With how much people rely on the UAV, I honestly feel UAV jammer along with a silenced weapon is amazing. I usually do that, plus martyrdom and 3x Frag. I just switch the gun depending on mood. works incredibly well.

I like the MP5 silenced with x3 frags, UAV jammer and deeper penetration. Another setup is completely overkill with the Barrett .50 cal, the M16 silenced, x3 frags, overkill, and martyrdom lol.

Martydom is kind of a joke now. Everybody expects it now that everyone is used to it. When the game first came out, I would get at least 3 martydom kills per match. Now, I'm lucky if I get 1 kill per 20 matches from martydom. So that's why I actually took martydom off just a couple days ago.

I think it really depends on the map. My old stand by is an M16 with red dot sight. My 3 perks are

1. 3 frag grenades

2. Stopping Power

3. Martyrdom

(The mp5 with steady aim on is also vicious.)

My other favorite class set up is M40 Sniper with

1. claymores

2. stopping power

3. Iron Lungs

martyrdom is the worst thing about COD4. It's completely unrealistic... just a way for players who die a lot to get extra kills without using any skill at all.

There is no BEST class setup. 1 strict class setup wont work on every gametype. I 90% of the time am playing team deathmatch or domination so my set up is

1) bandolier (i survive most of the time for a long time)

2) Stopping power (for terds that use juggernaut)

3) Extreme conditioning (for getting to one end of the map to the other)

I use a wide variety of guns: M4, G36c, M16, G3, MP5, P90, SAW, RPD, M40, Barrett .50cal, Dragunov.

Everything depends on the game type and the map. I dont play deathmatch for the most part, so I try to be versatile enough to move around and do different things. I dont really use shotguns and barely use sniper rifles. I like AR's w/dot or acog, P90 w/ acog, and the RPD w/ grip. I use stopping power a lot, fragx3, and occasionally clay's or C4, (C4 very underrated in objective games, as are Smokes). Extreme conditioning and steady aim are underrated too. I never use juggernaut, last stand or overkill. Only time I use bandolier is for my stealth, as I seem to chew ammo quicker. Still, I mix and match, and switch classes constantly.

I use G36c with Bandolier, stopping power and Conditioning. I also have a sniper setup w/ the R700/ barret claymore, SP and lungs.

On a side note the M16 is redicluous. Why is it that it kill in 3 runds but the M4 doesnt, even though they fire the same round? And for anyone who wants to argue muzzle velocity, then the saw should kill in at least 3. I wish they would balance it a little when the maps come out.

1. x3 frag, 2. stopping power, 3. extreme conditioning

for smaller maps like Vacant

MP5 w/ silencer

1. bandolier, 2. stopping power, 3. steady aim

as for sniping

barrett .50 cal & AK-47 w/ silencer

1. claymores, 2. Overkill, 3. iron lungs my gamertag is xxA7X1015xx add me

The only 2 setups you will ever need, and I'm no scrub.

MP5 W/Silencer
Bandolier
Stopping Power
Steady Aim

M16 W/Silencer or Red Dot
Bandolier
Stopping Power
Steady Aim

I'm serious, that's all you need.

It always depends on if you're a team player or looking for individual achievement. Keep that in mind.

I'm a strategic player, more focused on winning team games than individual achievement. Knowing a lot of players like to run and gun, I've tailored my profiles for support. My individual goal is to have the highest kill:death ratio and these usually get the job done:

1. "Falcon" My go-to profile

M16 w/ Red Dot (switch to ACOG in some maps)

Claymore

Stopping Power

Deep Impact

*Police the perimiter, facing into the field. Use claymores to protect one flank and draw run & gunners into you.

2. "Bear" - Effective on Vacant

M60 w/ Red Dot

RPG

Double Tap (in smaller maps) with Steady Aim

OR

Stopping Power (in larger maps) with Deep Impact

*M60 is most effective one or two rounds at a time. Just nudge the trigger. Double Tap is useful when you're in a room against much faster run & gun profiles like...

3. "Puma" - Run Silent, Run Deep

P90 w/ silencer OR AK47 Silenced

3 Grenade or Claymore

UAV Jammer

Dead Silence

*Substituting the AK47 sacrifices a little speed for a little more power. You also have to switch to very short, controlled bursts. Not many people use dead silence. Not only do can you move fast indoors without having to crouch, you can hear everything better. This gives you a little edge. Great on medium-**** maps. Useless on small maps.

4. "Eagle" - Overkill profile

M16 w/ ACOG

M4 w/ Red Dot

3 Grenade

Stopping Power

Extreme Conditioning

*I like the versatility with this. It works well on wetwork.

HARDCORE

ALWAYS USE UAV JAMMER ITS THE BEST PERK

SNIPER:-

Weapon- dragunov

Perks- 1. claymore 2. UAV Jammer 3. iron lungs

Assault-

Weapon- any weapon works well here exccept the ak-47 because of the accuracy and one shot guns eg.G3 because their to slow the m4 is probably the best.

Perks- 1. 3X special or frag 2. UAV Jammer 3. extream conditioning.

THEIR THE BASIC CLASSES THAT YOU NEED ANYTHING ELSE IS JUST FOR CHALLANGES XD

The best overall classes in my opinion (and many others) are the ones using the perks Bandolier, Stopping Power and Deep Inpact.

these will work good for any weapon available in CoD4.

I never have a class that is always set up becaust I usually change the guns once I get the Marksman III challenges.

What I like to use though is:

For Rushing in:

P90 w/supresor

Perk1: Bandolier

Perk2: Stopping Power (Sleigh of Hand if Search and Destroy)

Perk3: Steady Aim

For Sniping:

R700 (until I get .50 cal)

Perk1: Claymores

Perk2: Stopping Power

Perk3: Iron Lungs

If you camp/juggernaut/martydom/noob tube:

M16 w/ noob tube (w/o if 3x frags in use)

Perk1: attachment (or 3x frags)

Perk2: Juggernaut

Perk2: Martydom

primary weapon: g36c with silencer (for search and destroy)/g36c with red dot sight (for team deathmatches) side arm: gold desert eagle perk 1: bandolier (for team deathmatches)/3xfrag (for search and destroy) perk 2: stopping power perk 3: martyrdom (for small maps or indoors)/steady aim (for big maps or outdoors) i would burst fire at medium-long range (this is very effective and rapid fire makes the gun recoil too much) and go rapid fire at short range (you can burst fire but you might miss so going fully automatic is usually better) also the g36c has almost zero sway even with the acog scope although the m4 carbine does the same damage and has more rate of fire i find that it isnt very good at burst firing and it has incredibly high sway that even with low recoil it is hard to hit the target at long range basically m16+m4=g36c because it is good at burst firing at long ranges and good at fully automatic at short ranges :)
