Halo 3 has gotten a M rating and thats fine as long as i dont see anyone getting cut in half im fine. So whats the most violent part about halo? BTW my son is only 11.

I've been playing games of Halo's violent calibur since I was 6 or 7 (quake, duke nukem 3d) There really isn't much to worry about, it desenstizises the kid towards violence but thats about it. Video games has very little to do with a bad outcome i find, for the exception of online play. Keep your son off xbox live and your fine. If your really worried make sure he hangs out with a good group of kids and understands how serious violence is.

P.S: Halo 3 is killing Aliens, a good rule of thumb with M rated games is Alien Killing isnt that bad, but people is a bit different

well there are options to turn off the gore i believe, and therell be some blood splatters and thats about it, theres no people falling apart, its just mostly people flopping over after they die, but if you do decide to get it for him big warning, dont let him use a mic, but truthfully hes too young to play this game, this game is for a more mature audience

Like just about everyone else, I agree that H3 is not anywhere near the gore factor of GeOW. However, as far as Xbox Live goes, you would do well not to let your child anywhere near the likes of the riff raff that troll that game on Live. He'll hear more swear words in one match than he would in the entire South Park movie. I'm 31 and have been gaming since I could hold a controller. I wouldn't let my son play that game online. If my son wanted to play online without using the headset, that would be fine so long as I was monitoring him. Just my two cents.

It's an M rated game for a reason. As a parent, it's your call but I think that 11 years old is a little young to be playing an M rated game.

The previous Halo games haven't been that bad compared to the likes of Gears, Condemned or Bioshock, but I'd still make him wait until he was at least 15.

I think your son can play halo 3, its nothing like gears of war. Theres only blood it probably gunna be exactly like halo 2, and if you dont have halo 2 then you can go and rent it and try it out your self.

its not like halo3 is gonna be a grand theft auto or manhunt style game. I'm pretty sure he'll be alright if you get it for him. 11 years old is like being a teenager nowadays so he'll be alright im sure he's already seen porn on your computer anyways

I never found Halo to really emphasis its violence. its there but not in your face with blood hitting the camera like in Gears. I love that though lol.

I would say he would be alright with it but i would monitor how he plays. Better yet its a coop game. Play with him. Be fun and im sure he would get a kick out of playing halo 3 with his Dad.

From a moral standpoint, it really isn't that bad. A little blood and a little violence. However, having online communications he will be exposed to people and their idiocy. So if anything, forbid him from having headphones.

Now if your son has never played halo 1 or 2, he will most likely be wanting halo 3 purely because of the hype and if he doesn't like it, you will be wasting a whole lot of money.

I wouldn't. Buy him Skate or something, I bet he'd have a lot more fun with it. But if he's set on wanting Halo 3, then you have nothing to worry about as far as blood and people being cut in half and the like. And the XBOX Live deal, I think he might have fun playing it online, but make sure he doesn't have a head set. There's some freaks out there and some very vulgar things said on Live.

I'm sure your son would want to sack your nuts to oblivion if you didn't let him play the most anticipated game in gaming history so far. And my parents let my lil bro play the first halo at the age of eight so I don't think its a terribly gory game.

Yes you should get it for him. Halo is nothing like Gears of War. The violence is toward aliens, and you don't really kill humans unless its on xbox live. There is some blood, but its not horrible.

The M rating is too wide a net, I agree. Even when a parent pays attention to the rating, there's discussion on if it's a light M, or a heavy M. (Like The Matrix and Hostel are both rated R.)

So is Halo 3 really going to be inappropriate? I'd say there is certainly less violence, gore, and language than Gears of War, and might only earn its M rating from the relatively mild bloodsplatter. Still, eleven years old wouldn't even qualify him to play a teen-rated game, so even though I would say Halo 3 is really only barely above a T, it would still probably be inappropriate for a person his age, but that's for you to decide.

NX75

yea thats what my theory was

its not a very M kinda M game if u know what i mean

to put it simple theres light and heavy ratings(just like the guy i quoted said) so halo3 would be under light because of the mild amount of blood when someone dies and the fact that you "kill". the fact that they made it M is because it met those guidlines for it not to be teen(T)

It's really not that violent, you do kill obviously, but that's about it. There's a minimal amount of blood maybe left on the ground where the person died, but it's NOWHERE near as bloody as Gears. Ultimately though, he's your son, you should be able to decide for yourself by watching some vids. I've been playing Halo since I was 8, it hasn't effected me, and frankly I think your kid would be fine playing it.

jamejame
darn, you were 8 when you first started playing halo? I was playing metal gear solid for the first time when I was 8.

Yeah, I was seven or eight, I'm only 14 bro. Metal Gear... great game by the way.

hey, im 14 2. and i think halo should b ok 4 him. its not NEARLY as bad as gears. honestly, i really think it should b a T game. it has minimal language. no gore. and there is a small splatter of blood wen sum1 dies.

Halo 3 is nothing like Gears of War. They are two very different games. There is no Sawing ppl in halves and curb stomping people in Halo 3. It's all just a run and gun with little to no gore. But what it comes down to is if you feel comfortable with getting him the game. If you dont feel comfortable, then no one is telling you that you need to. But if you feel comfortable getting him the game, then by all means, get the game.

get him halo 3 let him play it for a week and see if his behavior changes. If he tends to be more violent don't let him play it. If there is no change, let him play it. And even tho this doesn't apply to your son, I watched Gladiator when I was 8 and I'm not violent at all.

I would say get him the game. But if he plays online. Dont let him use a headset. Cause gamers seem to get angry at the younger gamers... (everyone knows why).
