Here is my Dilemma, I had a 360 which got damaged by flood water and written off through insurance, Now I have $699 to play with. Harvey Norman can sell me an Elite for that same price....

OR.....I can buy a 360 arcade for $399.95 (RRP) 120gb HDD $229.95 (RRP) HDMI Cable $59.95 (RRP) and save myself $10 roughly. Now, knowing Harvey Normans I should be able to get them to do me a deal for buying all those items together, possibly increasing my savings to $50-60. Thus allowing me to purchase a game.

Can I get some Opinions? Does the Elite do things that the Core and Pro don't?

I wouldn't waste that much on an HDMI cable, thats for sure.

Go buy one online from monoprice.com or something that is WAY cheaper.

i'd personally just get an elite, but on the other hand you can just get an Arcade, hard drive, and skip the HDMI cable unless you really want it. HDMI cable can save you some money.

if u buy the arcade and add a harddrive on seperate it will void microsofts warranty. your only supposed to hook up things that came with it. Anything seperate, excluding memory cards/controllers pretty much voids the warranty.

but if something happend you could just take the HDD out, and replace the other one. I'm pretty sure buying a microsoft harddrive and putting it on your microsoft system will not void the warranty. Otherwise why sell Hard Drives for Xbox?

Hang on, in the UK the arcade bundle comes with a HDMI cable. Is that the same in Australia?

Personally. I think the Elite looks much better than the Arcade, but if you get the memory card too with the Arcade, then buying that with a 120gb hard-drive is probably better value.

microsoft's HDMI cable wont work any better than a cheap cable from monoprice. in fact, quality wise i'd say the monoprice cable are better than the one that came w/ my elite.

First I bought an elite for 499 plus tax which came to around 550 (from dell). I dont know where you live but buying an arcade and everything to equal an elite is a huge waste of money. Paying 699 for the elite is retarted.

Man those prices are outrageous. The arcade is only worth here for $279. Maybe you should try to looking online for better prices. i understand you live in AU but those prices are killer. If the arcade really cost that much, I would look into getting everything used.

I'm in Australia as you would have noticed if you read previous posts, but the RRP for Elite here is actually $729.95 so paying $699 is not retarted.

I allready have the HDD from my old Pro system which still worked fine after being flooded, but got written off though insurance incase it died sometime in the future due to corrosion from the floodwater. So I don't need to buy a Pro as I allready have 2 wireless controllers, media remote and 20gb HDD.

I could just throw my drive onto a core system and have a pro straight away.

Hopefully this will help people give advice not opinions, yes I understand that US and Canada pay less for the systems than we do in Australia, but that is not what I am asking.

I would like to know if the Elite has any advantages over the other systems, other than the obvious black colour and 120gb HDD. And how can adding a Genuine microsoft product void my warranty? I am not doing anything that the console is not designed to do, otherwise they would not put a removable flap on the core system to add the HDD

The Elite is exactly the same on the inside, the only difference is the storage and the color.

I would get the 360 arcade + 120gb HDD + HDMI cable off of ebay. An official Microsfot HDMI cable isn't going to work any better than a HDMI cable off of ebay for $10. That way you save more than $10.

If that doesn't sound good, then i'd just get the elite :P

If you want the 120gb HDD just buy the elite model. No point making things more complicated than they need to be.

The Arcade/Core is priced as it is to compete with the Wii, but really it lacks a lot of things that the Pro/Premium/Elite have as standard. Wireless controllers, communicator headset, HDMI, HD cables, Harddrive etc. Despite the console costing less, it is not the best value 360.

I have the Premium with 20GB HDD, and I'm happy with that. Personally I see no reason to need a 120GB HDD, and realistically only people in the US can justify it, since Live has a lot more content than elsewhere in the world.

he lives in austrailia and he already stated that the price is $725. There is absolutely no difference between the arcade and the elite other than the color and 120 gb hardrive it comes with. And the arcade comes with a wireless controller, hdmi port, and all that good stuff. I would save money in your situation and go with the arcade and jus get 120 gb hardrive separately. The only thing differnt is do what other people suggested and buy a much cheaper hdmi cable because the picture will be just as good or better than the microsoft one. And whoever said putting a hardrive on the 360 voids the warranty is wrong. Thats my two cents

HDMI cables either work or they don't because it is a digital cable. The quality doesn't matter at all; and I'm willing to be that Microsoft's is low quality and just branded with their name.

Only problem with that route is if the TC happens to need the additional audio output box that the MS HDMI package provides, which is also in with the cabling of the Elite model, further making it better off to simply go with the Elite to begin with.

And if you'd taken more than two seconds to read this dude's post, you'd realize that he does not live in America. Status of currency changes quite a bit when you're not in Dubya's Jesusland . And Australia is where Yahtzee lives, so I'm totally cool with them. :P

I don't know about the Elite, but I got an Arcade after I got the RRoD on my launch 360 core and it runs a lot quieter. Also, it doesn't seem to get as hot, even after a marathon session.
