Q: Controllers disconnecting while playing GTA V

I was playing Dungeon Siege III for about an hour and my controller was working fine. I decided to play GTA V, and that was working fine as well until I got to the point at the start of the story where you have to switch characters. I have 3 controllers and 2 different battery packs, and on all of them, whenever I hold down the d-pad to switch characters, the controller disconnects at the same time, every time. It isn't random, and the controllers work perfectly fine doing everything else. If I hold down the d-pad in the menu, for example, nothing happens. I also shot one of the hostages and it disconnected then too. What is wrong?

I figured out that I needed to turn off vibration and that fixed it. I am not sure why it does this with all of my controllers and battery packs. I can survive without vibration but I would like to know what is wrong
