Please tell me Microsoft are joking with "Frag Doll Friday"

While glancing around Xbox.com, I came across this http://www.xbox.com/en-US/promotions/20050629-fragdollfriday.htm

No offence...but that is just sad. Are there really going to be guys signing up for this just to play against women?

And if there are women on this thing, and they call themselves... "Frag dolls" shame on you. Why can't we just play games without the whole gender issue and being reduced to an pornographic like name. Talk about sexism, I wish I hadn't found that article now. I'm very surprised by Microsoft for hosting something this stupid.

Some might do it for that reason, but others might just because they're (at least somewhat) famous. Like if you got to play against Gabe and Tycho (Penny Arcade) or Linkin Park - something cool you could brag about to your friends.

He there's nothing better than playing games with girls that enjoy it as much as you, almost makes "hardcore" gamer's feel less "geeky" as some other girls/women would consider gamers to be.

Don't think it is sad because of Microsoft because Microsoft isn't behind the choosing of that teams name. The team is a group of women who named themselves the Frag Dolls. So the fact that Microsoft is saying hey get your a** kicked by this team isn't so sad.

The fact is that those women wanted that to be their name.

That guy was obviously playing, just cause they were women. It's sad, but alas the world we live in. I've seen other comments about Assasin's Creed, because the producer is a woman, I've seen people say, "Oh it's been developed by a woman, I have to play it" for him and others like him, it seems the game is immaterial.

They gave themselves that name! Do you even know who the Frag Dolls are?? They're a pretty kickass group of women who are great at FPS's. They are even sponsered by Ubisoft.

I pretty much agree with you. We shouldn't really need groups of girl gamers. We should just be able to play games online and not be surprised when we bump into a female on XBL. When you think about it it is pretty sad that we now have to play a game just because its against girls and not just fellow "gamers". Anyway rant over for now.

think that people seem to misunderstand when it comes to women and gaming. the fact is, women gamers are rare. i consider gaming a sport and for the most part a mans one. i don't know if it's because gaming may be unappealing to women or because the fact that there is such a small women community that they find it overwhelming. that really ticks me off. that is why though i really respect Microsoft and what they are doing for gaming. they are bringing the gaming community together. Whether it be kids and adults, blacks or whites, women and man, we are all being brought together by Microsoft. when men see women playing video games sure some fantacise, but at the end of the day we all know that a womens touch would definately open up a lot for gaming, thats why i definately am re assured assasains creed is gonna be awesome

so when you read about frag doll friday just remember Microsoft is in fact giving you a voice in gaming

She's on my friend's list, Jam Fduk. I only posted this to see what kind of reaction I got. I take those reactions and I can form some sketches around them for future ideas I may have. I find it amazing how sociable we are on the internet and forums are a big part of that. It's an amazing insight into the mind.

That's partly why I like videogames so much. The differences in playing styles, some just rush in with guns blazing, kill as many as possible, while others tend to be sneaky and might not rack up so many kills. It's just amazing how people communicate and express their opinions on a topic.

Not everyone posts deep, meaningful and well thoughtout replys to topic. Some "idiots" just post random rubbish because they are bored at work....(i'd never do that)
