Computer usage has been going up in household as my kids are getting older. I used to just switch my 360 cat5 and computer cat5 out of the modem. I am assuming I need a router so I can both of these cat 5 cables plugged in at one time. Can anyone recommend what I need and will this slow my computer or 360 online speed down if I decide to go with a router set up??? Thank You!!

Go with the router. I have my PC, Laptop, and 360 all connected with no noticable dips in performance.

Well, obviously, you're going to need a wired router. You can pick up a great one (I prefer Linksys) for about $40-$50, and cheaper if you want to get a lesser known brand.

As you know, a router will share both devices to your internet connection. If you have high speed (broadband) internet, you shouldn't have issues surfing the web on the computer and playing XBL at the same time.

You should definitely go for a router. I'm using a Netgear wireless router and it works great. The only slowdown you may experience is when there are multiple people accessing the internet at the same time. Depending on your connection speed, you may not experience any at all.

I HIGHLY recommend getting a Linksys WRT54G. And yes, if you are downloading something on your computer, your gaming will lag if you are online. You only have so much bandwidth, and the more traffic you have going on it, the slower it will be.

My computer is running not as fast as normal right now. I did not realize that looking at Boobies would cause my computer so many problems. It just goes to show that women are out to get us one way or another.:D
