I don't believe they have announced what the expansions will be, but from the graphical/gameplay improvements, GTA4 looks fantastica and well worth the wait. If you're unsure, wait until the reviews come out.

No way, do not buy a game just because "its gta!"

I have yet to see one thing new in GTA4, or anything that makes me want to buy it. This game's hype is based purley on its name.

yea right...other then the fact that its going to basically be a living city, one of the largest, if not the largest free-roaming city in any video game to date...Euphoria Engine....Cover system.....multiplayer......New targeting system that includes free aim

nothing to get excited about, then maybe you should read a bit more

anyone not excited with GTA 4, click Here and if your still not hopeless, your hopeless :(:(

Blah Blah Blah Blah, its all the classic GTA pre-game hype.

They pulled the same junk for SA, and that game was nothing short of a disappointment.

O looked he gets a cell phone now. Big deal

* Every street in Liberty City contains a street sign with a name on it.

Omg, huge new feature :|

Free aim? Saints row had that. Multiplayer? SR had that too. Ontop of all of this, the new cop system sounds lame (obvisouly I haven't tryed it yet).

Sorry, but I refuse to fall for this hype again.

so what if Saints Row had those features? Doesn't mean they can't make them better...I loved Saints Row, but I am very confident that GTA 4 Will blow it out of the water....

your looking at the stupid detail's....once again, try reading MORe

* Grand Theft Auto 4 runs on Rockstar's proprietary next generation game engine, R.A.G.E., allowing for an unprecedented level of realism and interactivity.
- New sunlight and weather effects which give the city a whole different appearance as the time of day progresses.
- Volumetric lighting effects allow sunlight to stream realistically into dusty interiors. Police spotlights will likely benefit from this effect as well when helicopters kick up debris.
- Normal (bump) maps will provide much more detail in models than the underlying polygons, as well as giving materials more texture and depth.
- Road and building textures are more varied than in previous GTAs. On some roads you will find potholes, metal plates (etc) where the road has been dug up.
- Modern pixel shaders give water, glass, cars, etc.. more realistic reflections and shininess than the earlier games.
- In cars, you can see real reflections on the rear and side-view mirrors.

* GTA4 uses euphoria, a fully procedural animation package created by NaturalMotion. The core technology is the Dynamic Motion Synthesis (DMS) system.
- Variations in the terrain are met with realistic changes in the walking animation.
- Unique game moments. Animations are created on the fly, so each player's experience will be unique. Gamers are no longer subjected to pre-recorded animations.
- Characters will react realisticaly to being hit with gunfire, cars, and melee weapons or fists.
- Players will be able to push people out of the way, rather than "floating" past them as in older games.
- Falling/thrown characters will react as in real life- They won't simply be limp, lifeless ragdolls. Nor will they use a canned "super hero" animation like before.
- Characters (and players?) will be able to hang on to helicopters and trucks, which will swing them around as the vehicle moves.

Again, this is nothing but hype. Over half the stuff you listed does nothing for the gameplay. Potholes? Reflective grass?

The graphics engine looks ok at best, not "unprecedented level of realism and interactivity." Are we watching the same videos?

This is right from GS's last preview:

"While there are some really nice bits of subtlety, such as Niko's leaning into turns as he runs, there's also some of the slightly jerky stiffness we've seen in previous games."

What happen to the new Euphoria animations?

Nothing makes this game stand out. I'll say it again: They pulled this same dam thing with GTA: SA. "Omg huge city that's alive, multiplayer, immense new missions." Maybe you missed the build up for that game. Sorry, but I am not getting my hopes up.

I actually don't expect a lot to be different. I for one play for the missions and for my fill of violence, and it looks that's what I'll be getting, in HD might I add.

  • After the initial load sequence, there are no loading occurrences when entering/exiting buildings or crossing islands. The extent of the no-load-time expectation in the game has also been commented on; a Rockstar spokesperson claimed, "you can basically play the game from beginning to end without a single load screen."
  • Details revealed demonstrate how variations in the terrain cause the way the character walks to change. The way the player moves is controlled by a physics engine instead of pre-written animations, therefore enabling character movements to be more realistic. Rockstar Games announced that Euphoria by NaturalMotion would be used in future Rockstar titles, confirming that Euphoria would indeed be used in the game.
  • Stealing a parked car can no longer be done simply by opening the door and driving off. Now, it involves Niko approaching the car, breaking the glass, and hotwiring it; only then can he use it. There will be several animation variations to sneaking up to a car and breaking its window. The way Niko enters the car would look different each time depending on where and how he is in relation to the car. Because of the Euphoria engine, the way the character will approach the car will be completely random. Players will be able to choose from four different camera views while in a car, including a dashboard view. The trunks of cars will also be utilised by the player, though specific details are unknown. All cars feature a standard GPS device while more expensive vehicles have voice-navigation GPS. Car damage physics have been greatly improved.
  • Police artificial intelligence and star wanted levels now operate differently. When the police are in search of Niko, the player will now have to avoid a certain radius marked on the map in which the police will be looking for him. The size of this radius will increase with the player's wanted level (the more stars, the bigger the radius) and re-centres itself on Niko's location if he is spotted by the police. Instead of utilizing the "Pay N' Spray" as in previous games, Niko has to realistically disguise himself by clandestinely changing vehicles in empty areas such as parking garages, a feature seen in the video game Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. Additionally, pedestrians can now report crimes such as car-jacking.
  • Pedestrians are much more intelligent, realistic, and diverse, using mobile phones, cash machines, eating snacks, drinking soda, reading newspapers, scratching their noses, coughing, smoking, and interacting with each other through laughter and remarks. Homeless people will be seen in alleys rubbing their hands over a flaming barrel, sitting against walls, asking for spare change, and other expected actions. The flow of pedestrians and traffic will be different depending on the time of day.
  • The gunfight system has been reworked to feel natural by utilising a cover system similar to that of Gears of War and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, the reason being that the combat system in previous games seemed awkward and cumbersome. The player can slide to cover, blind fire, and free aim. When locked on, the target's health is indicated by eight purple segments on the target circle.
  • The player will not be able to fly any fixed-wing aircraft, unlike in some previous instalments of the Grand Theft Auto series. However, helicopters will be flyable. Francis International Airport (from Grand Theft Auto III) is confirmed to be in the game. The player will also be able to control boats.
  • The player has the option of hailing a cab in order to travel to any address in the city. When riding in the cab, the player has the option of viewing the journey from the inside, or skipping it to arrive at the destination immediately.
  • Niko will be able to perform a variety of new actions such as climbing telephone poles and fire escapes, pushing people who bump into him, calling women for dates, playing pool, darts, and bowling, eating, and drinking. Niko is able to become intoxicated by which the character stumbles and the blurry camera bounces about.
  • It is possible to have multiple active missions, due to the fact that some missions will run over the course of several days and will require the player to wait for further instructions, etc.
  • The use of mobile phone has been expanded to perform multiple actions. When selecting the mobile phone, a zoomed-in version of the phone pops up in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen and a list of several commands are made available to the player, such as "meet me here," etc.. The phone can be used outside of vehicles to listen to the radio. Retrying a failed mission can be performed by accessing the menu. Niko can dial 911 and trick the police to send a dispatch.
  • Niko will make use of the Internet as a means of communication. Although the exact details of the role of the Internet in the game are being kept secret, it has been revealed in a GamesTM Magazine article that Niko can access the internet from various cyber cafes (one of which is called "TW@") in order to upload a resume for prospective employers. According to Dan Houser, there are over 100 accessible, fictitious web-sites within the game.
  • Niko's outfit can be changed throughout the game. However, it will not be possible to customise his physique or hairstyle as in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
  • It has been revealed that every street in the game will have a name for the reason that some missions will require the player to go to a specific address.
  • There is now an autosave that activates after completing a mission.
  • A day in Liberty City is forty-eight minutes long, instead of twenty-four as in previous Grand Theft Auto titles (one game hour lasts two minutes in real time).
  • Some meetings in the game will take place high in the buildings of skyscrapers, which will subsequently allow Niko to throw people off the buildings. However, Niko will be unable to access all the buildings in the game.

Lol I can't beleive your ignorance.

This game is going to be amazingly good. It's going to have so many new features, the Peds have all been upgraded, the Graphics will be top of the line, other features include a amazing cell phone that you can actually use, Cover system, a 16 player online, New wanted system. Did I mention Euphoria? You'll buy the game and you know it. You'll also love it.

The only thing GTA IV could possibly need in an expansion would be some more weapons, and maybe some more sidequests. I dont see them adding a new island to Liberty City or anything else huge in an expansion.

Well i liked GTA3 but got bored after a week or 2, same with Vice city haven't played San andreas yet...but im hoping this one will be good. While i only played GTA 3 and vice city only for 2 weeks it was great fun stuffing around and stuff...i didn't have to much fun with the missions.Only reason why i did most of them, is to get new areas to stuff around in :P But then i got 2 islands and got bored :\

They should add Staten Island in an expansion...I can't believe they got all the boroughs except Staten Island in the game.

I have Vice City and Liberty City stories for the PS2 and didn't find them appealing. So, I may be skipping this game for a change :P
