http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-46617-Chicago-Console-Game-Examiner~y2010m6d16-Gamestop-offering-tradein-system-for-new-Xbox-360-slim

Gamestop sent out an internal email yesterday claiming to give 360 owners a special deal to get their hands on the new shiny, slim version.

Starting tomorrow (6/17), you can trade any system with one controller for $100 and Gamestop will treat all of your accessories for the system as separate credit.See below for a full list of how much GS is offering for your expensive 360 branded accessories.

  • 20 GB HDD - $30
  • 60 GB HDD - $35
  • 120 GB HDD - $40
  • 250 GB HDD - $50
  • 64 MB Memory Card - $10
  • 256 MB Memory Card - $14
  • 512 MB Memory Card - $18
  • Network Wireless Adapter - $40
  • Network N Adapter - $50
  • Wired Controller - $20
  • Wireless Controller - $25

So pretty much if you have a wireless controller(or wired), a memory card, wireless adapter and a 20gig HDD or higher your looking at over 200 bucks trading up for a 360 slim thats probaly the best deal you'll get

what about getting the data off your hard drive and onto the new slim. if they want you trading it in towards it then you wont have them both at the same time.

I guess you would have to copy all of it to your computer with a flashdrive, then when you get your slim you will probably have to copy it back.

The Content on your hard drive really shouldn't matter unless you have a save file to a long single player game or something. You can redownload all your market place content and your xbox live profile from xbox live.

$100 (that's £67 for me) for a 360 and controller is not a particularly worthwhile deal unless you're really struggling for cash. I guess we'll have a similar deal to this in the UK. I'm selling my 360 to my bro for £80 so my Slim would put me back about £120 (about the price of an Arcade).

Not really suprised though, as of this week the Arcade/Pro/Elite will no doubt plummet in trade in price.

i dont know about trading anything in although i have 2 xboxes (living room and bedroom) and i can get rid of one of them and save me some money on the new slim one. its not a great deal by gamestop but it will save you a little money. if my local gamestop has them in stock tomorrow, im gonna get one anyways cause i want one, but im still deciding if i wanna trade one in. its nice to have a few spare consoles laying around just in case.

Eh. So it's basically $140 for an Elite as it came in the box? I'd pay maybe $80 or $100 to upgrade, but no more than that. I'll just transfer my licenses to a USB stick, sell it on my own, and buy a new one.

hmmm 1 question

So, since the 360 has the whole "liscense" thing when it comes to things like downloadable content then how in the hell will i get the games i bought on my current one onto the slim?

I'm not coughing up more cash for map packs, games, and dlc in general ALL OVER AGAIN.

that's the only thing that's keeping me away from taking this deal

I still waiting about news on RROD and E74. But if I would sell my Xbox360-with wireless controller =$100 plus two 120G HDD, 512 Memory Card, two wireless controllers that would be a fair deal.

The content that you purchased can be redownloaded according to your Gamertag. But, the issue when playing on a different console, is that you must remain online at all times. When you go offline, you won't be able to play the arcade games nor access any DLC that was purchased prior to playing on a new console. This issue can be remedied by contacting microsoft on their site and transferring your license to the new console. Takes a couple of days, but at least you wouldn't have to remain online.

Not a bad deal for me as i could get $205 off a new slim. Two issues arise for me though, the HDD is different then standard xboxs. So no more bringing the HDD with me to play at my brothers place or wherever until they get a slim. The second thing I noticed while looking at the specs on gamestop is that it doesnt come with HD cables, just standard definition. I could be wrong or misread something. But this would be something to look into.

It has a HDMI port and if you have an HD tv, I'm sure you would have a spare HDMI cable sitting around.

Not worth it for me. Getting the big boy slim would cost me close to $200 and an Arcade + 16gb memory stick would cost me about $100. Both of those numbers for those products are more than I'm willing to pay when I have a perfectly fine xbox sitting at home.

Wow, I can get $195 towards a $300 piece of equipment! :roll: I suppose I should appreciate that this is probably the best deal Gamestop will ever offer, but I would greatly appreciate a memory transfer from my current HDD to the internal one on the slim.

Do you have a 120gb flashdrive? I guess you could probably pull a little off, dump it into another hard drive, and bit by bit whittle away at it, but that's super tedious. Plus, $40 for a hard drive that cost me $150 just 6 short months ago? I think I'll pass.

I won't be trading my 360 in any time soon. I think it's okay offer, but they could have done better. Mine works perfectly fine, so it would be a waste of money to trade it in right now.

You don't even need to contact MS support about transferring licenses to your new console. You can do that all yourself and it only takes as long as the number of licenses you have to transfer. In other words, it doesn't take a few days. Maybe an hour or so if you take your time and have a ton of content like I do. Go here: http://www.xbox.com/en-us/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/ Make sure you sign in with the e-mail address attached to your XBL account.

Agreed. And the Gamespot deal is not as good as the Best Buy Canada deal, which lets you get points for spending that money times 4, which, when buying the new Xbox 360 Slim, can get you 2 $35 games for free. And with that deal, I can still keep my first xbox 360 and give it to my little brother.

Oh and it doesn't come with component or HDMI cables. It comes with, get this, composite cables! :lol: Taking a page from their competitors I guess.

From GameStop's Website:

Xbox 360 250GB Console includes:

* Xbox 360 250GB S Console
* Xbox 360 250GB S Removable Hard Drive
* Xbox 360 Black Wireless Controller
* Xbox 360 Black Headset
* Xbox 360 Composite A/V cable (standard definition)
* One Month Xbox LIVE Gold Membership
* 1 year limited console warranty
