The following is a press release by the game development company, Kujo.

Ghostlight takes trench warfare to the next generation

The benchmark for the first person shooter genre is set to reach new heights in summer 2008 when burgeoning publisher Ghostlight unleashes "To End All WarsTM" onto the global battlefield.

Set in the war-torn trenches of World War I Europe, "To End All Wars" will deliver unrivalled atmosphere and realism, bringing the mud strewn horror of this most desperate of conflicts to the PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360TM formats using Epic's Unreal® Engine 3 technology.

To ensure the title delivers on its promise, UK developer Kuju will take care of development duties through its' newly appointed Chemistry studio. "By blending Kuju's specialism on Unreal Engine with this great theme we've created a new & exciting formula for an amazing game experience that brings to life the visceral and demanding struggle that was The Great War" comments Studio Head Simeon Pashley.

Stephen Morgan, Head of Development at Ghostlight continues "By producing a title set in World War I, we are taking gaming into a new period of wartime history. Our research revealed huge global changes in both real-world technology and tactical deployment of battle units during the intense four year conflict. This has given us scope to present gamers with a multitude of evolving challenges within an ever changing environment".

The authenticity of the conflict has been put at the heart of the project. Period locations will be recreated in lavish detail, only weaponry of the time will be available and character design will reflect the uniforms and ****of the era. Crucially the experience of the gritty combat in the trenches, the fear of charging across no man's land, deadly secret excursions to enemy outposts in the dead of night and the heart stopping terror of pounding artillery guns will be central to the gaming experience.

Khaled Lababedi, Director of Ghostlight stated "The FPS genre is a competitive market however we believe that "To End All Wars" will be an exceptional title that will form the basis of a new gaming franchise. Alongside other products to be announced in the coming months "To End All Wars" will propel Ghostlight towards its stated objective of becoming a major global publisher."

Just when we thought that the WW2 FPS-craze was dying... along comes the first WWI FPS. Unreal 3 Engine? Awesome. Trench combat? Not so much...

I have never heard of Ghostlight or Kujo. We'll see how this goes, but at this point all those paragraphs sound like a promising game. If they pull it off right, it has a possibilty to be the most tense war shooter ever, much like WWI itself because of the trenches.

I don't think WWI warfare will translate well into a videogame. But it does sound interesting.

If they nail this: The authenticity of the conflict has been put at the heart of the project. Then I will most likely pick it up.

How on hell can you make a WWI FPS?!

For a start the rifles back then were sticks with a slingshot mechanism inside that fires one shot every 10 minutes. Oh and most the warfare back there was lobbing grenades from one trench to another, and occasionally picking off brave bastard who goes over the top. Great fun.

They have made several games such as Battalion Wars and Reign of Fire for the Gamecube (and are making BWII for the Wii), Geometry Wars: Galaxies for the Wii and DS, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior, etc.

Oh, and don't forget there will be lots of mustard gas in this game. That should be interesting... but I'm completely against the whole idea of a WWI shooter, since it will be too similiar to WWII shooters... which have been done to death.

You know, I wouldn't really mind a World War 3 if it meant no more WW1/2 video games.

I'm kidding, but only slightly. Didn't Hour of Victory teach anyone anything? If you're going to make an FPS set in the WW1/2 time period, then you better make sure the quality is legendary, or it's going to fail. There's no more room for these types of games, it's way too crowded. The video game industry is about as original as Hollywood.

WWI sounds like the perfect type of game for a lesser known company trying to make a name for themselves. Its definately a risky gametype due to the nature of WWI, but the reward could definately outweigh the risk for lesser known producers.

WW1 was a completely different war than WW2 in terms of fighting and available technology. If they make the game just right, it will be a totally different experience than the usual CoD and Medal of Honour games.

Wonder who you will play. If its just Americans, that wil be extremely stupid, considering the Americans didnt start in WW1 until the very end. I'd really like to play as British, French, and Canadian. Vimy Ridge or Somme would be a good place in this game. Or maybe you can be a German, i dunno. Or maybe the lesser-known Eastern Front as a Russian? I just hope this game is authentic and not some Call of Duty knockoff. Trench warfare was all that was their, with occasional planes, tanks, and ur friendly-old mustard gas, so if the developers make you infilitrate enemy lines and play an enemy soldier (like MoH AA) that will piss me off. Stick to the trenches plz developers. Dont make this some crappy WW1 action game. Make it a WW1 combat sim instead.

Don't forget to include the assassination of Archduke franz ferdinand.

I think they should forget about the world wars (except maybe a WWIII game) but I think they should start using ancient wars where people used swords and shields.

Funny how everyone complains about ww2 games. If you dont like them, dont play them. The whole reason they still make games like this is because they know people will buy them. Personally, I think this sounds like an interesting idea.

History Channel made a Civil War game for the 360...

And before that, there was Gods and Generals.

I don't see how a WWI game could be done well but, who knows.

i think a world war 1 game done correctly will be so awesome. i mean, i understand the complaints about lame, boring trench fighting but there is plenty of stuff to focus on that would makeit more interesting. like melee, and customizeble weapons. there were tons of really barbaric clubs, maces and trench knives (trench knives are like big knives with spiked brass knuckes attached to the handle). think how epic it would be to get up close to some german in your trench who tries to beyonet you, but u crunch his his scull with a british nail club. could be totally epic.

also they would have to have awesome dirt and mud physics

It seems like a good concept I would love to see a good WW1 game. But It's going to be rely obvious that if your fighting in the trenches Its going to be a short game. *whistle blows* "OVER THE TOP LETS GO" *artillery bombardment starts* *Flying chunks of the guy next to you splatter on your face* *Oh no your pants are caught on barbed wire* *Oh no german machine gun SPLAT SPLAT SPLAT (screen goes red)* "congratulations you have been part of the great war unfortunately you did not even make it through no mans land Sorry" GAME OVER RESTART MISSION?
